VBEAM & Anabolic Steroids [ Dr Lazoff ]

Dr, can you think of any theoretical reason why taking oral

_anabolic_ steroids and/or prohormones (such as nandrolone/deca

durabolin, androstenediol respectively), would cause negative side

effects or poor outcome with either vbeam or photoderm?

[for others reading this, anabolic steroids are NOT the same as

corticosteroids such as cortisone which are _catabolic_ steroids]

Tom, it's very well documented that anabolic steroids cause acne (by

increasing sebum production), but beyond that I don't have an answer

for you; I don't have the factual knowledge about either anabolic

steroids/prohormones or laser dermatology. From what I know, long

term success with laser therapy involves re-collagenization and re-

vascularization, and while I don't know whether these hormones affect

that process I would suspect they do. I also don't know to what

extent these hormones affect the vascular physiology underlying

rosacea, but again I would not anticipate a favorable interaction.

Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful. I would think a dermatologist

could answer your questions more competently.

I don't have any acne/pustule problems, only the redness and

flushing. It's so hard to find good info on even just

vbeam/photoderm alone as you pointed out, never mind adding in the

interaction with anabolics.

I remember saving some studies off the web re vbeam and rosacea, but

can't find them as yet. I'll send them to you when I do, hopefully

in a few days.
