Cheryl,

I at one time was on 8 Viokase-8 with meals and 8 at bedtime, but not

Viokase-16. It probably depends on your pancreas' inability to digest

food. There's a word for that, but I can't seem to remember it.

Cheryl,

the amount of Viokase you are taking is the same as my

dosage. I do take ranitidine with mine, three times a day.

Yes, it is listed as possibly causing pancreatitis, but I

haven't noticed any increase in attacks since I've been on

it. It's a possible side effect, but not a guaranteed side

effect. Discuss it with your doctor and then decide if you

feel you need to be on a different medication than the

ranitidine. That's a decision both you and your doctor need

to make together. Welcome to your group and I hope you find

all the help you need here with us. Sorry you have to deal

with pancreatitis though. I look forward to hearing more

from you. Where are you located? When did you first start

having trouble with pancreatitis? Do they know what caused

yours?

Mine is from a pancreas divisum (which is divided pancreatic

ducts). My story (about how I developed chronic

pancreatitis) can be found at
