Guest guest
Hi, Myrna! I am learning about all this too. My husband ended up with necrosis of the pancreas because of an ERCP. He is taking a pancrealipase (Lipram). The doctors have not given a specificity on how many to take. It's a trial and error thing --- too many create discomfort and too few create discomfort, i.e., cramping/gas/diarrhea --- (these are also side effects of the capsules for some people). Ensure you take with or right after a meal - too soon without food in the stomach will cause the enzymes to break down stomach tissue. Eating more fiber may help combat the diarrhea also. I assume you are eating no fat to very low fat. My husband keeps fat intake to 6 grams or less per meal - it's been a challenge preparing meals. So far his weight has remained stable. We are still experimenting to find just the right amount of enzymes for him to take. He also wants to see whether he'll be able to handle a piece of REAL pizza without that fake cheese --- we'll try that soon! Good luck, Myrna!
