<< All of them approached Jody later

Friday asking her why I would purposely try to ruin my life with

this...and did I have a Death wish? I am soooo upset by this...but

have to be there 9 hours a day !!!

I am soooooooo sorry for this very long post...but no one understands

my frustrations like those of you here !!! >>

,I had the pleasure(?) of sharing my process w/ about 1/3 of Cincy's

firemen and a fraction of Cincy's most critical nurses. I initially wasn't

going to tell anyone, but was confident in my decision and figured it was way

too much work to try and dodge the subject. Their discontent w/ the surgery

was their baggae not mine! I got every comment imaginable from " You're going

to look beautiful...a guy from the 49's house wife died from one of those " to

" We boys at Delhi think you look fine, don't change a thing " to tearful

fireman eye's that say " What if you turn around and get cancer! " or my

favorite " That still doesn't fix or address the eating disorder you must

have " . It finally got to the point where I said " what have you heard about

bypass surgery so I can educate you " . The nurses I worked with hated that

one! I'd refer them to the site, qoute the NIH statment that diet and exercise

has a 94% fail rate if you're over 100 lbs. overweight, and say if there is

an eating disorder (mentally) I was more than strong enough to deal with it.

I always thanked them for their concern and said it made me feel good that

people cared about me. I reassured that I had done my homework and stressed

the reversibility of the surgery. Since then 1 paramedic is having bypass

surgery and my most negative and difficult nurse has requested Dr. R's

website for a friend. I'm more than flattered......the decision to tell is

very personal! I went through alot by telling, but I work with the most

understanding and sympathetic(towards obesity,ONLY!) firemen in the world.

They are great, and my fellow nurses are really coming around and now ask

important questions like " When are we going shopping for new clothes?! "

Good luck in your journey!
