regarding attachments

hello to all and happy New Year.

Regarding attachments:

Attachments are allowed and can be posted to the group. However,

has some rules in place that affect whether or not you will get an

attached file. All attachments sent to the group are received by

members who get individual email messages. For those who opted for

reception in digest mode, the attachments do NOT go through.

Also as of last year no longer keeps attachments as part of

messages in the archives. Hope that helps solve the mystery of why

some members get attachments and some don't.

One caveat to this for members getting individual messages. If your

email server is set to screen out attachments or has a high security

setting to control for virus and spam some or all attachments from

" " may not get through. You would need to discuss this

with your network administrator or the administrator of your email

service.

Now a few reminders for the New Year when posting to the group:

1. When posting messages remember a descriptive subject line will help

members keep track of message threads especially for members who get

them in digest form.

2. When responding please refrain from one line messages. If one

wishes to thank or agree with a message it is best to respond to the

individual member instead of the group. Actually a rule of thumb is to

consider if the response is of benefit to the group if so then by all

means post but if it is more an individual reply then posting directly

to the sender is preferred.

3. When responding to a message edit the original so as not to repeat

a thread's contents. The original message may need to be included on

the first or second thread for clarity but then judicious quoting may

be required or the messages can get long and the original post may get

lost. This will be especially helpful to digest mode members.

4. Remember to read, review and take several moments before hitting

the " Send " button. As a matter of courtesy and consideration to the

over 400 members who will be receiving the message.

5. Finally, thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience and

research in migrant health issues.
