Tobias(5) has really been difficult again the last 5 or so days. I

have been trying to figure out what is going on with him. This

morning I was about to do a mouth exercise with him, had him open his

mouth and his tounge is major thick coated with white, hardly any pink

to see. I had backed off on his vit. as he has been really fighting

against taking them for 2-3 weeks now. We are back to taking the

probiotic 3 x a day starting this morning.

Is this what is called thrush? or is it just a symptom of yeast

overgroth or are they the same?

He has also been complaining a lot of his legs hurting. It was really

bad this week end when he was running his high fever, seemed to stop

but yesterday and today he was complaining about it again. Can this

be conected with yeast or is it just because he is growning really

fast again?

Sorry to be so ignorant.

Sandy M.

Whole family SCD in support of 5 yr old who raged.

I can only tell you our experience...the same thing happened about a month

after starting the diet. OUr daughter had never had thrush before. I don't

know the research of candida, but I wonder if after starting the diet the

yeast ventures out....just my own thinking. For our daughter, we had to be

really consistent with enzymes, eliminate honey since the yeast had moved

upwards, and we began to rotate herbal antifungals....grapes were also a

problem. As Summer has said so eloquently, you hvae to observe what is

feeding the particular form of yeast. Probiotics are a given. Maybe it would

have resolved itself without the above over time, but we couldn't handle the

behavior. She is doing much much better now. Just our experience...hope it

helps!

You are truly not alone. We too had bizzare behavior. IF it wasn't

caused by die off it was the yeast and bad gut guys.

When ever we saw thrush (and this was only in the beginning and at

the two-three month mark that Elaine says can often be a relapse),

since we couldn't handle the protease at all in the enzymes (caused

a literal celiac crises/uncontrolable diarrhea..not good when you

are in the 5th percentile in weight and only 23 months old). We had

no choice but to go back to intro and do it by the book. We cut

honey down like Elaine says to and no juice...or half and half water

if we did. She did OK with Apple suace and Bananas though. She ate

mostly meat/eggs and proteins with no ill affect. Even though intro

is bland and a pain! It died off in less than three days, the white

spots and coated tongue vanished. She is back to her " new " self

again. I say " new " because she use to be so sick she never smiled.

She now smiles!

Even the meds the doctor prescribed made our duahgter made her vomit

and get sicker. And we even paid extra to get the darn meds

compounded SCD safe. Everyone is different though, some kids here

are sicker than others. Ours was possibly sicker..due to damaged

gut could not do the enzyems. I don't know if this pertains to you

or not. Something will work....starving them always works, if you

can deal with the intro for long enough.

Sincerely Antoinette (mother of 2 year old celiac/autistic; healing

when no other way worked.)

She is doing much better now. All outward signs of yeast are gone.
