Hi everyone,

My child has several odd symptoms that seem to indicate a collagen

formation problem. Until I came to pecanbread, I hadn't heard of any other

ASD kids with these symptoms, but I mentioned them in a post a few days ago

and already three parents have written me since then to say their kids have

symptoms like these, too.

I'm hoping someone on pecanbread has a child who *used to* have these

symptoms and doesn't anymore -- either because of SCD alone or because of

SCD plus other treatment. I'm sure the other parents who have written to me

about their kids would like to find solutions for their kids, too.

My child's symptoms are:

1. Permanent " denting " of the flesh under bruises. (First noticed at about

10 months old after she bumped her forehead on a chair. You can still see

the " dent " which is exactly the same odd shape as the bruise was.)

2. Nosebleeds, usually " out of the blue " , often at night.

3. Easy bruising. Especially noticeable on her legs, which are sometimes

just covered with bruises, many of them very small. Sometimes a bruise will

" re-bleed " and grow in size a few days after first occurring.

4. Extremely slow healing of skin wounds. Even tiny things like mosquito

bites. During worst period, she had a mosquito bite that showed no sign of

healing for 6 or 8 weeks.

5. Every skin wound heals with a scar. (These are not keloids, just

normal-looking scars.)

First practitioner said Vitamin C deficiency, but supplementing Vitamin C

didn't solve the problem. Second practitioner said a Vit C deficiency is

often really a bioflavanoid deficiency, but supplementing bioflavanoids

along with Vit C didn't solve the problem. Stopping oral zinc

supplementation made skin healing completely stop. Copper peptide skin

cream boosted skin healing from none to slow (still off zinc). Back on

zinc, along with oral copper supplement, skin healing improved some but

copper peptide cream still needed. Added Vitamin E, no further improvement.

Arginine, no further improvement.

Something interesting is that after first 4 months or so of SCD, I started

trying to give Lilya ghee or yogurt (homemade from fresh goatmilk) -- just

1/4 teaspoon of either -- at doctor's urging. Did this several times over a

period of many months and every time, she went into bruising then after a

few days had a nosebleed. Eventually I gave up on ghee and yogurt. Feeding

blood-type-incompatible foods like buffalo (recommended by same doctor and

NMT-tested " ok " ) also caused bruising/bleeding episodes. So it looks to me

like any acute disturbance of gut function triggers an acute episode.

Final doctor: Collagen formation problem. Recommended lots of broth,

zinc, free amino acids (most of which I wasn't willing to give because of

excitotoxin risk). (We'd already done lots of broth, zinc, and the amino

acids I was willing to give, without solving the problem.)

On a chart of collagen formation disorders (found on the web), the closest

match to Lilya's symptoms is scurvy! Back to the Vitamin C issue! As a

baby Lilya was diagnosed allergic to Vitamin C and treated with NAET. It

took lots of tries to find a Vitamin C she'd tolerate even after the NAET

treatment, and only with Houston Zyme Prime could she tolerate a reasonable

dose.

If I remember right (biology classes were a long time ago now), skin and

the lining of the gut arise from the same germ layer in the human embryo.

The gut has a lot of collagen in its structure. If the skin heals slowly

and poorly, wouldn't the gut heal slowly and poorly too? I can put copper

cream on her skin and improve things somewhat, but I can't put copper cream

on her gut lining!

Thanks in advance for any information, suggestions, or experiences! Is

there someone on pecanbread who's found a solution for this type of problem?

(Oh please, oh please!)

Kayla, gut stuff since babyhood but very bad last 20 years, SCD 2 yr

Daughter Lilya, almost 4, mild ASD, serious health issues, SCD 2 yr
