Hello,

Does anybody have a recipe for infant formula besides the one in

BTVC? Is there one with Goat Yogurt? My friend's 6month old is very

low weight and hardly wants to drink his formula (NEOCATE) because it

hurts him so much. Her own breastmilk gave him a worse reaction than

the NEOCATE. Is there possibly a commercial brand that has been

found to be Disaccharide free? She is desperate.

Thanks for your help.

There are no dissacharide-free formulas. The best thing would be for

mom to go on an elimination diet of chicken, pears, zucchini (or

whatever disaccharide-free combination of a few SCD-legal foods

succeeds in eliminating the problem foods), to make her

breastmilk " hypoallergenic " and then re-introducing one food at a

time for 5 days into her diet to identify the culprits. If that is

not an option (say, she's done nursing and is unable to re-lactate),

then there are a few formulas she can try. With a Neocate reaction,

corn is almost always the culprit, it is mostly dried corn syrup

solids. Every formula has corn except Alimentum Ready-To-Feed (but

it has broken down milk proteins, so if there is a severe milk

allergy, this can be a problem). Another formula you could try is

Elecare, which is rice-based, but I think has some corn. With a cow

milk allergy, goat milk is not recommended, the proteins are too

similar - 90+% of cow-milk-allergic babies also react to goat milk.

I am experienced with this, feel free to email me with questions.
