Guest guest
I had my first attack in 1994 and the ER doc diagnosed me with an ulcer and told me to take Maalox and Advil. I had a few more attacks, about once a year and treated it with Maalox and was fine. Then last July 2002, I had such pain and vomiting, I went to the ER again, and my triglycerides were off the charts--too much red meat. That was my first diagnosis. There was nothing wrong with my pancreas after an MRI, CT scan, ultrasound and X-ray. I was in the hospital for 4 days and went home. I had another attack last month that also landed me in the ER, and again, my triglycerides were in excess of 300. After more tests, which again showed nothing wrong with my pancreas, I was NPO for two days, I went on a liquid diet, and then regular low fat diet. I'm now on medicine for triglycerides and chloesterol, and have to have a low fat diet. My triglycerides are now around 130 and my cholesterol is about 140. Alcohol was not a factor since I hadn't had any alcohol since last March. My alcohol intake was about 2-3 drinks a year at most. I may also have genetic panc as my birth mother, and many of her family have really bad " ulcers " which they claim runs in the family. I suspect it's undiagnosed CP. I'm not in touch with my birth family anymore, so I don't know for sure. Marcy in Colorado
