Guest guest
Hi Robin, I have read some published research that my doctor is doing regarding stent vs sphincterotomy for PD. According to his findings, stents that are left in place longer than 12 weeks are blocked in almost 100% of patients. His approach is to leave them in for no longer than 6 weeks (which is why I am to go back every six weeks for replacement). I do not have the reference in hand, but remember reading this when I first learned that I was to go in for stenting therapy. According to the handout that his clinic gives to patients, stents can be left in from 2 - 12 weeks, depending on why the stent was placed to begin with. Hope this helps a little.
