My son who was diagnosed with crohn's disease Nov. 2005. We found the SC diet in

December and has been on it ever since with good results. Last night & today he

is sick with a fever, stomach ache & is vomiting. Before the diet when he was

sick I would give him some saltine crackers or toast, and some gatorade or

sprite. These he could always tolerate. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I

could give him that would be easy on his tummy? I am afraid the almond crackers

might be too rich. I gave him a fruit popsicle, since he hadn't thrown up for a

while, but now his tummy really hurts. He has been sucking on ice off & on.

Thank you,

Belle

Belle,

When I have been sick I like to make my own " gatorade " drink. Here is the link

for:

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/electrolyte_drink.htm

I have tried this one and not particularly liked it so I have made my own that I

got out of the Dr.'s Book of Home Remedies. I just really water down grape juice

or whatever legal juice he tolerates and then add a tsp of Honey and couple

pinches of salt. This has perked me up well after having the flu.

can he have the gelatin? That's an option because it has some carbs as well as

some protein.

Peppermint tea with some honey may help to settle his stomach pain some,

especially if he is no longer actively vomiting.

I make my kids a hot honey tea from ginger, ginger helps to settle the stomach

and to fight the stomach bug.

I also slice up oranges for the children to suck on, not necessarily eat. You

can freeze orange slices too, making a bit of an ice, if that is preferred for

soothing a fever.

I would stay away from nut products, they are difficult to digest as it is,

not something I would think would be good for stomach flu. A little bit of

slightly warmed apple sauce might go down okay.

Generally, whenever my kids are sick I make bone broth for them to drink. In

the middle of sickness, I would boil a chicken with some garlic and carrots if

tolerated, it can even be thickened after cooking with bit of butternut squash

in the blender, get some additional carotenes into him.

I hope her gets over this bug quickly!

I would love to know how you make your ginger tea? And peppermint

tea, is there a particular brand or do you steep your own peppermint

leaves to make the tea?

I agree with the orange slices too... Joe here loves sucking on

orange slices, he doesn't chew them, just enjoys the sensory sucking

on them :).

Also, white grape juice seemed to be easy on Joe's tender stomach,

especially when sick. We always dilute 50% juice and 50% purified

water.

Chicken broth is good too... I love my crockpot for several hours

simmered whole chicken w/ seasonings, carrots, celery, and

onions... :) Works great for beef roasts too... even if Joe only

eats the broth while sick, at least I know it's better than nothing

at all. And while intestinal bugs reign, clear broths and juices

are definitely easiest on the stomach.
