Here is an old post about chelation I thought those may be

interested in. This explains why some may not be having success.

It is believed that a child should have healed on the SCDie for a

minimum of a year before starting chelation. And that SCD alone is

a natural and gentle way to detox the body from junk that doesn't

belong in it. And that chelation can cause an overgrowth of the bad

guys to come back, and that Elaine didn't like it untill the

intestines had HEALED for a minimum of one year and the vicious

cycle of bacteria overgrowth had been put into check through this

wonderful diet plan.

This is also why other plans do not work, because they offer foods

that are not monodisacharides, or offer hard to digest food that do

not digest and just sit in the child's healing and injured gut to

ferment and feed the bad guys!

Food that is not digested sits and ferments...so becareful in the

beginning to only feed a HEALING child/adult only foods that are SCD

safe and easy to digest, allowing as much variety as possible. The

phenol/salicylate sensitivity and the oxalate issues will vanish

rather FAST on a strict SCDiet....many supposed food intolerances

and allergy vanish that first year on a strict SCDiet.

Dr. Haas and Elaine said that sensitivity issues can leave as fast

as the first month, because sthe gut heals fast with a good

introductory...causing a good die off, and aiding in stopping the

vicous cycle of bad gut guy overgrowth and allowing the gut to

repopulate with the good guys in the yogurt (which by far offers

more good guyt guys than any other method).

But have your activated charocal handy and epson salts bath soaks

ready, because for smoe of us this transisiton can cause " die off "

and this appears to be the flu (irritabiltiy, dizzyness, aches,

cramps, diarrhea, nausea and more), and can make behaviors worse for

a while, untill you get over that initial much needed hump. This is

the TRansistion that Elaine warns about in the back of the Autism

chapter in her BTVC book.

We are now, 2+ months and getting over that initial hump and seeing

unbelievaable progress in our Autistic daughter kiki/her diagnosis

malabsorption/injured gut/celiac nad Autism. Doing nothing but SCd

rigfht now and having this kind of susssess, and also using the SCD

24 hour goat yogurt, with the rendered harmless casein. This yogurt

works because unlike probiotic supplements it adds millions of good

gut guys (warriors) to fight off teh bad gut guys. We are finnaly

winning the war without anything but the SCDiet that saved over 600

children/people in Dr Haas day and have saved thousands since Elaine

brought this solution back to us.

HERE THEY ARE (Cut and paste)

Chelation and SCD

We are starting to naturally chelate my son's gut. We are using

vitamin C

and cilantro. We keep a careful eye out on his carbs (legal) while

doing

so to keep the yeast at bay.

I think he is so healed, that he is actually absorbing the cilantro

and

vitamin C and antioxidants he gets via food. I don't think we could

have

even attempted this prior to being on the diet for over a year. We

are

seeing great results..

Best wishes,. Jen.

Since SCD there has been much more spontaneous, interactive

conversation

and play as well as an ability to attend. We are also chelating, but

we

chelated for a year before going on SCD and it is only since SCD that

we've noticed the dramatic changes. I think SCD is helping chelate

more

effectively.

Marisol.

[Marisol does the DAN protocol]

I have no experience with chelation and this is one area in which I

dare

not get involved. There are many who believe, based on allergists'

advice, that the basic problem is accumulation of toxic heavy

metals. I,

personally, feel that (as in Alzheimer's with aluminum) it is a

result of

faulty cellular metabolism which is probably due to malabsorption of

other nutrients . These essential nutrients which are probably not

being

absorbed would rid the cells of anything that does not belong in the

cells. But, again, I know little more than that. I studied the

detoxification systems of the body including the P-450 system of the

liver (very dependent on Vitamin C) but feel my information is

incomplete.

Elaine Gottschall

I totally agree with Elaine's view that the gut

pathogens /malabsorption

problem is destroying our children's ability to detoxify naturally.

The

DAN doctors ,who are chelating ASD children, have found out that

DMSA and

ALA increase the gut bugs. They also have found out that increased gut

bugs impair detoxification. This information is explained in great

detail

in Dr Mc Candless' book " Children with Starving Brains " .

The best help for chelation is to follow the SCD diet along with your

favorite detoxification protocol .

Some parents are decideding to skip chelation and to just let the

child

detox naturally after he is healed by SCD.
