Guest guest
when going to holiday parties take sugar free goodies... Allan Its just an idea Update and Question Hi everyone, I haven't written in awhile but have kept up reading everyone's entries. Everyone's doing so well. There seem to be several of us that had WLS in mid-November so it's been fun to see how we're all tracking with each other. I've been fine with eating and drinking, the usual problems that we all seem to have sometimes with nausea, or not getting enough protein. For the last three days though I've had incredible leg cramps. I'm walking every day and just don't know if I'm not getting enough water or if maybe it's low potassium. Anyone else have or had this issue and was there something you did about it? The only thing that's been different in my daily routine is that I started back to work part-time but keep my water with me and think I'm getting enough fluids. I've been surprised that holiday parties haven't been too bad. There always seems to be some appetizer that's protein based and the only real temptation so far was last night when I was standing next to a dish of desserts and there was cheesecake petit fours and little Napoleans. They looked soooo good. But I resisted, I wasn't even hungry at that point. Oh, I have a funny story.....I picked my grandmother up the other day to come and stay the holidays. On our way home we stopped for lunch and shared a Senior Citizens lunch portion at a Bob restaraunt. We didn't even finish it! It was amazing. Cheap lunch. Happy Holidays everyone. Guest guest
Tammy, isn't it a wonderful thing to be able to say no to a yummy looking dessert? I made several for a party today, and didn't even lick a finger. When everyone was munching on dessert, I got a little turkey and green beans and they were wonderful! I still wonder though how much of this our body reacting, and how much is our brain?! I'm looking forward to those cheap meals! Guest guest
Allan, very good idea. It's amazing that many think we don't get anything good tasting. My husband and son haven't figured out yet that in the last 6 month they've been eating " butter " when it's actually a yogurt product, and they're eating " diet " mayonaise. I laugh to myself, but I'm not telling them. I figured I'm just helping their cholesterol. Guest guest
About leg cramps, I've been getting them for about a year, long before the surgery. At first I was told to drink more liquids, but that didn't help. I have Quinine capsules I take occassionally when I'm having trouble. The cramps wake me in my sleep and I can't even get out of bed with such severe pain and cramping. I wonder if mine could be Diabetic related.....lack of circulation. Mine couldn't be the potassium as my kidneys don't filter it out and I have to take medicine to rid the body of it. I think doctors treat cramping like this about the way they treat nausea and dizzyness. They really don't know!!!!! Recently my doctor gave me pills for the dizzyness, and said it's hard to know what's causing it. Turned out it was the side effect of an RX he gave me. Hmmmmmm. Seems like we have to be more knowledgeable than in the past. Before I take any RX I'm given, I get on the internet and research it. If I don't like it, I'll have it changed. My kidney doctor said not to take my pain pills because they were Ibuprofen based (which I can't have anymore anyway), and gave me an RX that was better. The incidence of side effects for this drug was so frightening, I never had it filled. I'd rather have the knee pain. OOOps, Joan, don't get started on doctors.... I have arthritis in my knee, and most of the rx for it are filtered through the kidney... not much fun. Janice > About leg cramps, I've been getting them for about a year, long before the > surgery. Guest guest
Janice, the only good thing about the knee pain, is that since surgery the pain is very minimal, most days I don't even notice it. It helped my ankle the most, but since the swelling has gone away, I have little ankle pain anymore. It's a Catch-22 with medications these days. My pcp gave me the pain pills, and the next week the kidney doctor says no. I'd never heard of cysts in the kidney's. Is it anything operable? The kidney doctor drew me a diagram of the kidney and how they function, and I was flabbergasted! They are really incredible. I've got 60% function now, and even though the surgery won't stop the disease, it can slow it down. Gotta look at the bright side! Guest guest
Hi Tammy!! Congrats on all of your success!!!! I am also having leg cramps. They are worst at night when I am trying to sleep. I asked the surgeon last week when I went for my check up and he said it was likely due to a lack of potassium. I asked if I should start taking a supplement and he said " Do you really want to take another pill? " I of course said " NO!!!! " . So he suggested that I eat a banana and 1/2 glass of milk every night about an hour before bed. I have been doing that and though they have not gone completely away they have gotten alot better. I imagine it will take a week or two to build my level back up again. I love your cheap lunch story. My hubby tells me every time we go out to eat that I am a " cheap date " these days!!! >Candi Update and Question Hi everyone, I haven't written in awhile but have kept up reading everyone's entries.
