Guest guest
Dr. R. I do understand what you are saying even though I am a post op I feel very bad for the number of hopefuls out there!! I would have gladly been a self-pay if I could have afforded it but without insurance there would have been no way!! There is no way I would have went into surgery as a self-pay. It was too high of a risk to put that enormous strain on my poor husband because of a chance of complications. Extended hospital stays or another surgery, a possible stay in ICU could be very expensive, and fear would have made me miss this wonderful opportunity for a " new " life. Have you considered trying to be a more " traditional Surgeon " . Office hours in the afternoon surgery in the mornings, actually meeting with patients, having patients get their own medical records and bring them to the appointment. Deciding then if they are a canidate for the MGB, schdule surgery at your convience (not theirs). Stop letting patients submit patient info over the internet. I'm certain those other surgeons in your office building handle their case loads similar to this. It's certainly not unheard of. I realize with self-pay you can certainly make more well deserved money because of the write off the insurance conpanies make. I know this is a terrible decision you must make and I know you will do whatever you must do. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
