Guest guest
What kind of carbs make you dump besides concentrated sugars like you would find in sweets? I'm now a carbo-phobe but would like to learn how to balance things...I'm wondering about a few specifics, too: -whole grain bread -legumes -whole grain pastas -sauces Thanks! Guest guest
, I'm only 5 weeks out, but I've been eating whole grain bread for weeks and it's fine. Legumes have good protein. The only other thing I look forward, but just haven't done it yet, is brown rice. I love it. Nutritionist said no white rice, brown was fine. I'm also hooked on sweet potatoes lately. No carbs had made me dump yet, just the blasted scrambled eggs. I tried easy-over today, tasted great with 1/4 slice of toasted 12 grain bread, settled good. I've had to carefully watch carbs for about 7 years with Diabetes, but in the small amounts we eat I haven't been worried about it. BTW, someone mentioned sugar free candy. Some are delicious, but as noted watch the carbs. They can be sky-high. Joan LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282pre-op/275surg/243/140 What makes you dump? Guest guest
I can eat all of those things . Albeit in very small amounts. I don't dump from carbs but my stomach doesn't like them. I only dump from sugar and I am guessing fats as well but I haven't really tried any of them so I don't know for sure. Candi What makes you dump? Guest guest
Joan I don't dump from eggs but my stomach does not feel good if I eat them. But I can eat the egg whites from boiled eggs. I just throw out the yoke. Have you tried that? Great protein and the whites won't do damage to your cholesterol. Candi What makes you dump? Guest guest
Candi, I tried an over easy egg today, and it was fine. I was very thankful. I don't like just the egg white by itself, and got my blood test results today and Cholesterol is very good even without medication any more. So, I'm just going to stay away from scrambled for a time. I've noticed certain foods though do make me queasy, and I'm going to have to pay more attention to which ones. Guest guest
You are so lucky Joan!!!! I wish I could control the cholesterol by diet. Well maybe in time I will. Doctor and Dietician looked at my food diary and neither can find any reason for my cholesterol being so high. So I guess I will wait and see. Maybe I will receive a miracle. Guest guest
I never thought to stuff them. I usually just eat them plain. I actually prefer the white to the yoke anyway. But I also have cholesterol problems. Even since the surgery. My bad cholesterol on my last test was 217. So I am back on the Lipitor. Doc says it is in my genes and I will never get rid of it more than likely. Bummer. Candi Re: What makes you dump? Guest guest
Candi, I'm so happy now to be rid of the medication, but I'm still aware it could still be around the corner. Last week my cholesterol was 171, and made me happy. Even happier is my blood sugar which was in the 100's (acceptable), but down in the 90's this week. As I have inherited Diabetes from both sides of the family, I'm aware that these good ratings could change. And if I ever go back to destructive eating of carbs and sugars, it'll be there waiting. I hate the medications, hate the disease, and hate the medical problems that both the disease and medications gave me. It seems with cholesterol many people are just pre-disposed to it and no matter how hard they try it's still high. My stepmom says her body manufacturers it, but isn't being true to herself as I've seen lately how she eats, and sneaks tons of butter, Real Butter!! In short, do what you can (and you are), and if you need to take something for it eventually, go with it. This surgery and it's weight loss can do a lot, but can't do everything for us. I'm sure it's a let down though to think you'll be rid of it, and then it's not gone. Joan LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282pre-op/275surg/243/140 RE: What makes you dump? Guest guest
Joan you are truly blessed!! You sugars are so good!!!! Are you getting those by diet alone? I am still in the 150-160 range. I don't have to take insulin every day but I still do on some days. My doctor feels that as my weight continues to improve it will get better and I will hopefully not need it anymore. But he did tell me (I was surprised by this) that once a diabetic always a diabetic. He told me that once you become resistant you will always be resistant. Not that if you stay alert you can't control it completely by diet and exercise but that you will never get a gold star saying " cured " and that is what I was hoping for. He did also tell me that Eventually I should no longer have to test several times a day but instead only when I am not feeling well which is an improvement. Count your blessings!!!
