" I just realized you had replied, and I missed it...sorry! When the docs at the hospital started me on Decadron, they said it could increase my blood sugars. I have never had any high blood sugars, ever. But sure enough, by the second day, I had fasting sugars of >200. They only had to give insulin 2-3 times...but it kind of freaked me out. Then the " Diabetic Educator " came in for about 5 minutes and tried to explain how to do the fingerstick and run the test. I hadn't even gotten my machine, and she had no idea which one I would be getting. She just said, " it's not that hard, just read the instructions and call the 800 # on the box if you have any problems. That may not sound like much, but I was getting this plus my home PCA instructions and new med schedule all thrown at me at once trying to get me discharged to my apartment alone. I was a basket case by the time it was all over. Thank the Lord a friend of mine called some mutual friends that work in a doctor's office, and they came right over and helped me get it all sorted out. Anyway...that's the story!
