Before SCD I was on a moderate carb diet, and had dropped my carbs pretty low and the ones I was eating were mostly complex. The further I dropped my total carbs, the longer it took me to ovulate. I was getting about 35g of carbs per meal and 20g per snack, most of them complex. When I started SCD, I was getting a similar amounts of carbs at first, but all of them were simple, and I started ovulating earlier than was typical for me. Insulin is just one of the chemical involved in ovulation (and PCOS is believed to be a problem revolving around insulin resistance). When I was eating complex carbs, the bugs in my gut were getting most of the sugar and not me. When I was eating simple carbs, I got them and not the bugs, thus the change in ovulation. Once I cut my carbs back way too far 10 - 15g per meal, mostly complex meaning I was getting hardly any sugar for myself, and that was the longest it has taken me to ovulate since I started charting.I have absolutely no idea why this would be happening to you, but thought I'd throw in what happened to me just in case there's something there that may ring a bell.Hope you get it figured out. Its been a while siince I thought about the chemistry of it, but lets see what I can remember. Dhea is a precursor hormone, which means that it is a base hormone and turns into whatever you are lacking. It also helps with healing. My doctor told me that people with chronic diseases produce very little or no DHEA. Doc put me on it for 2 reasons: because of my gut and because I didn't have ANY hormones. NO estrogen, progesterone or testosterone, and very little coming from my thyroid. Basically, I was in menopause at 30. After only 1 dose I could feel the difference. It was like my brain came out of a fog. I wasn't as tired (I could drive 2 hours without a nap), I could think all day - didn't have that afternoon zone-out (which really helped at work). It really helped me energy-wise. My hormones are on the low edge of normal, and my gut was much improved. As for how much to take - I can't remember what my exact dose is, but I am on the highest amount of any of my doc's patients. He gives me a script for it which I have filled at a compounding pharmacy. I don't think you can get it at a regular pharmacy.
