Guest guest
Dear Colby: Thanks so much for your email. I have been on a mission for several years trying to get my son on some real food through his tube. Our neurologist and his dietician agreed last summer to help. Since they help balance the ketogenic diet (which my son doesn't qualify for any longer) - I asked that they help me with a balanced diet with lower carbs since he has more seizures with carbs. We have been giving him less Neocate and some jars of Gerber baby meats and some fresh (or jars) of veggies. His morning tube feeding consists of Neocate and fruit. He has been tolerating it well. We have made very small changes and he has done well with it. It has taken us all this time to only partially change his diet. I think we started last August. I didn't realize that Neocate was 52% corn syrup solids. Yikes. Suzanne has helped us with 's feeding issues. We participated in her Mealtime Partner Program. She came and did a followup home visit last February. She told me that she and Marsha Dunn Klein were working on the tube feeding book and I am looking forward to getting one as soon as it comes out. Have you heard when it will be ready? I talked to a friend who is a naturopath and ordered some digestive enzymes. We just started giving them to my son 2 weeks ago. I am hoping that we will see a difference. I think it is helping though. We also did some food allergy/sensitivity testing with a local doctor who does alternative things. He sends blood out to Immuno Laboratories in Florida for testing. It comes back with food sensitivities and discusses the importance of the 4 day rotation. That is also something that I would like to incorporate too. You are absolutely reinforcing things that I believe that I need to do. I hope that your son comes through his cardiac surgery and has a speedy recovery. He sure has a good mom taking care of him. Sincerely, Tammy
