Paget,

I too was on continuous Dilaudid at one time, Potent stuff Eh? Don't

worry about coming off of it. Just make sure your doc knows what he

is doing. At first one of mine just stopped it cold, bad news!! The

withdrawl pain rivaled that of the pancreatitis plus sweating shaking

and just generally miserable. My dad loaded me in the car and drove

me an hour to my specialist and demanded he do something! He was

great, he consulted an addiction med specialist who concluded I had a

Pseudoaddiction. Basically means that I wasn't a junkie but my body

had become dependant DUH. He prescribed an oral narcotic and started

me on a high dose that I was to very gradually decrease over a two

week period (until I got down to the level I still required to

control my pain). I had NO problems with that protocol. I didn't

experience any withdrawl. So don't be afraid, just be prepared. I

was terrified when the doc said he was calling an addiction med

specialist; I pictured them locking me up in a rubber room to suffer

through the withdrawl! Not even close, those days are pretty much

gone for people in our situation who actually need the powerful pain

meds we are on. So Keep your head up and if you have problems tell

them, you don't have to suffer through it.

Much love and luck to you!
