Guest guest
I have moved to a different city and I have my first appointment with my new orthodontist on Thursday. This orthodontist was recommended to me by my new dentist. My question is: How do most of you out there pick which orthdontist and which oral surgeon to go to? What are the best qualifications to look for in each doctor when I am choosing a new one? And are there some clear signs that a particular orthodontist or oral surgeon is not the right one? Thanks for your help.

Guest guest
signs to look for: 1. they listen 2. they are caring 3. they have at least 15 years experience 4. they are perfectionists (there are easy signs to pick out a perfectionist) have a lot of questions ready.. if they appear to be in a rush or start getting impatient, it's the FIRST red flag.... i consulted 5 orthos before picking the best one... i only consulted two ortho surgeons .... > I have moved to a different city and I have my first appointment with > my new orthodontist on Thursday. I had a HUGE dentist phobia until I moved and got a recommendation for one from a colleague of mine. I trusted him by the time we started talking orthodontics, so I asked him who the BEST orthodontist was and whether he would have his kids be treated by him. I did the same thing when it came time for my ortho to recommend my OS. I feel like I got the best treatment possible from all of them, thank God. Guest guest
Also make sure the surgeon does a LOT of these surgeries. 15 years of experience is not much if he/she only does one or two a week, or less. Mine does about 25 a month, I think. I got really good feelings from both my surgeon and orthodontist. They answered all my questions without hesitation, even the silliest ones. My ortho was a referral - he's a TMJ pain specialist. He only works with one surgeon, has for about 25 years, so I didn't have a choice there. He said " if I had to have this done, I'd go with this surgeon " . Ask for patient references, good and not-so-good results. Both my ortho & surgeon offered, although I didn't take them up on the offer. Eventually I did meet several of my surgeon's patients in person, one before and one after. Hope that helps. > I have moved to a different city and I have my first appointment with > my new orthodontist on Thursday. This orthodontist was recommended > to me by my new dentist.
