I have never heard of resistance that doesn't include being a diabetic. You

learn something new every day!! :o)

There are several people on the list who are diabetics who no longer needed

insulin after having the surgery. I mean like immediately after.

I had surgery 3 1/2 months ago and am also a diabetic. I have not gotten

completely off insulin. I am still taking some every few days or so. But

no longer requiring it several times a day or even every day.

So I guess the answer to your question is yes you can lose weight this way.

I worked with a nutritionist for 2 years before I gave in to the surgery. I

did not exercise as regularly as I should have. But I never lost weight

either. the insulin acts as a storage drug and so it makes weight loss very

difficult.

Insulin resistance question

Hi all,

New to your group today. Am in the beginning stages of getting the

process started to getting WLS but wanted to know if any of you had a

subborn insulin resistance problem as I do. I would HATE to go

through all that I would have to go through and then not lose any

weight. By having I.R., it causes me NOT to lose anything, for

example, went to the gym five days a week, used a personal trainer,

watched carbs, higher protein, and in five months, I didn't lose even

one pound. VERY depressing!!! All the resources I look at regarding

insulin resistance all say that the best way to get rid of it is with

weight loss. WELL NO KIDDING!!! I wonder what rocket scientist

thought of that response. At any rate, I'm doing everything I'm

suppose to, but am not losing. I am not diabetic though my

endocrinologist does have me trying Avandia (Glucophage did nothing

for me) but so far it hasn't helped. If anyone has had any

experience with insulin resistance and has had the surgery, let me

know how you've done. I guess I just need some assurance that the IR

will hopefully go away once the surgery is done as it obviously

highly restricts food intake!

Thanks...

I was on Avandia for almost two years before I had my surgery in Nov,

2003, and I have never taken another pill after my surgery and my blood

sugar stays right around 100 or less. My PCP says it almost always takes

care of the problem. I think our better eating habits helps lower the blood

sugar.
