Guest guest
. It all depends on who is saying the words. Those of us in the know more commonly refer to our surgeries by their medical term, i.e., RnY Gastric Bypass, Duadenal Switch, Bilio Pancreatic Diversion, Etc. Those that are unfamiliar with the terminology dub the surgery " stomach stapling, " feeling that the term encompases all gastric surgeries. Truth is that most surgeries require stapling of the stomach, but that depends on the surgeon. My surgeon is completely against using staples/staple guns and preferres to use sutures and his own artful hands. Sooo... no staples in this stomach. Please don't let articles about surgical mishaps scare you so much. Of course all surgeries should be approached with caution and a healthy dose of knowledge, but the better informed you are about your surgeon and his/her procedure of choice, background, requirements, etc., the better off you'll be. Guest guest
from what my doctor told me there are different types of stomach stapling... in the early years it was more cosmetic than medical where people just stapled there stomachs to promote weight loss but nowadays the medical procedure is more intricate in that the stomach size is much smaller than original procedures and they have added the technique of connecting your small intestines to the newly formed smaller stomach so that not only do you bypass your larger stomach but also the large intestines which is used by your body to secrete nutrient (as well as fat) from food into your body. the large intestines are also used to break down things like sugar.. that is why we are having a hard time digesting sugar now because we no longer have the aid of our large intestines. I think most of us are getting the medical stamach stapling (gastric bypass), most people dont get the other type of stapling anymore because its weight loss/gain is not too good... your stomach is still pretty large and its much easier to over eat with the cosmetic surgery than the gastric bypass. > > ~~~~~~~~~~~ > > I thought that Gastric Bypass Surgery and stomach stapling > surgeries were 2 > > different things but, I keep hearing they are the same thing???
