Guest guest
thanks! one thing i forgot to mention is that i feel like i have a double chin now and i'm not overweight, so i don't know how to get rid of this extra skin... i wonder if its residual swelling or just since my jaw was moved back, this skin is hanging down. its not that obvious, but it still bothers me... it just looks out of place. i have no idea what kind of exercises i would have to do to lose this. > > hi,all... haven't posted in a while. just wanted to update really > > quick - i see a lot of new names on here. i had upper and lower > > surgery on march 16th. i was wired shut for the full six weeks - > > hated it. my lower jaw was moved back to correct an anterior open > > bite. anyway, i just got the last of my braces off on monday!!! > > they took the top brackets off two weeks ago. i LOVE LOVE LOVE the > > results. downfalls - i still can't open as wide as i used to and i > > wonder if i ever will. i occasionaly get some soreness if i eat > > something to chewy or yawn too much. but overall, i'm very pleased > > with the results. > > > > this thing consumed my life for over 2 years, when i first heard i > > was to have the surgery... and then going through having braces, > > which made me so self-conscious. i work in the entertainment > > industry so it was hard being around people who are visually > oriented > > and looking the way i did. but now my confidence is so much > better! > > i've found myself even talking more loudly and more often! i just > > don't want to hide anymore. i wanna show off my teeth! > > > > anyway, all of this to say - i really hope that everyone here has > the > > same happy outcome that i have. there are pros and cons to > > everything in life. but i don't regret doing this at all... not > even > > at my lowest point did i regret it because i focused on the final > > outcome. > > > > okay, off my soapbox and back to work!!! > > > > heather

Guest guest
My doc says it is still swollen. Some parts take a very long time to go down, up to 1 year. My daughter had upper lower and chin, lower moved back, and she the same thing. Guest guest
I'm not sure what to suggest about that problem! Keep your head up, chin up, I guess. Guest guest
Try some type of firming facial cream, make sure it has a high elastin content. This should help. Guest guest
Hi, my name is Helen and I had my lower jaw set back on July 15th (will be 5 weeks post-op on Thursday). I too, will be rubber-banded tightly (no opening my mouth at all) for the entire 6 weeks. Sometimes I read posts on these support groups and I get a bit jealous because it seems like so many people are just banded tightly for a few days or maybe 1-2 weeks but not for the entire 6-8 weeks. I was thinking it was because I had my lower jaw done instead of my upper. Anyway, interesting about the double chin thing. I am thin (was thin before and am now about 7.5 lbs thinner and I notice a little double chin too. I think I'll give it another month or so and then see how it looks. Congratulations on your recovery! I'm counting each and every day until August 26th when he un-rubber bands me and adds two guide wires. How far were you able to open your mouth after 6 weeks? I am hoping that I can suck down a little macaroni and cheese that isn't blended. Is that realistic? > > > > hi,all... haven't posted in a while. just wanted to update > > really > > > > quick - i see a lot of new names on here. i had upper and > lower > > > > surgery on march 16th. i was wired shut for the full six > weeks - > > > > hated it. my lower jaw was moved back to correct an anterior > > open > > > > bite. anyway, i just got the last of my braces off on > monday!!! > > > > they took the top brackets off two weeks ago. i LOVE LOVE LOVE > > the > > > > results. downfalls - i still can't open as wide as i used to > and > > i > > > > wonder if i ever will. i occasionaly get some soreness if i > eat > > > > something to chewy or yawn too much. but overall, i'm very > > pleased > > > > with the results. > > > > > > > > this thing consumed my life for over 2 years, when i first > heard > > i > > > > was to have the surgery... and then going through having > braces, > > > > which made me so self-conscious. i work in the entertainment > > > > industry so it was hard being around people who are visually > > > oriented > > > > and looking the way i did. but now my confidence is so much > > > better! > > > > i've found myself even talking more loudly and more often! i > > just > > > > don't want to hide anymore. i wanna show off my teeth! > > > > > > > > anyway, all of this to say - i really hope that everyone here > has > > > the > > > > same happy outcome that i have. there are pros and cons to > > > > everything in life. but i don't regret doing this at all... > not > > > even > > > > at my lowest point did i regret it because i focused on the > final > > > > outcome. > > > > > > > > okay, off my soapbox and back to work!!! > > > > > > > > heather
