Guest guest
, I remember those studies and they were with PD patients. The conclusions were much the same as these - it needed more study. This study said they gave up to 1200 mg four times a day to get maximum effectiveness. But they did not go into how much that effect was. The best prices I have seen show that even 1200 mg per day is probably going to cost over $10 per day and may be as high as $30 per day. Several people have asked how much Dan took - do you remember? I know that Dan was in bad shape the last two years or so, but I do not remember how long he had MSA (it seems to me that his diagnoses was confirmed by autopsy). Some of this info would be helpful to patients considering using CoQ10. Also - did he take vitamin E with it. Note however, that a news article about a scientific study is not always reviewed by medical or scientific people as the article itself is reviewed. Also was the study reported as an abstract of a talk or a reviewed paper. Talks and abstracts are usually presented only to scientific people as guides to further research, whereas papers are scientifically reviewed against other studies. I have seen no long term studies on high dosages of CoQ10 for side effects, so that is another cautionary point you should consider about taking such high doses. I think anyone who considers taking high doses of an experimental supplement should talk it over with their doctor first. I think it was a review of an abstract which will be presented this month, so the paper will only be printed if there is a published proceedings. Note this paragraph: Recommendations The research is still in its early stages, and the study does not provide enough evidence to start recommending that Parkinson's patients take Co-Q10. All of the patients in the trial had early stage Parkinson's and there's no data to suggest it works for people who have later stage disease. Researchers say the doses in the study were far greater than the amounts available in pill form. Coenzyme q10 brands sold in stores may differ and might not contain enough of the compound to make a difference. Take care, Bill Werre (How are things in Florida?) P.S. Are you going to be in the DC area in early to mid Nov? We hope to have a meeting. ========================================= Ramm wrote: Blank href="file://C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery\"> Hi guys, Bill, that was a news article taken from an actual study. The study group was very small. 80- people. 40 with placebos and 40 with Q 10. Maybe Pam could post the actual paper for us. I'll get the name of the medical journal, by crook or hook. will try to find the information and post it in a little while. if you ago to Jeff's link. There were a slew of article about Q10 posted about 1996-97 time frame. I think Becky posted them. That's what originally got our attention. Will get back with the information in a little while! Guest guest
The news article about CoQ10 was referring to the Phase II clinical study of CoQ10 in 80 Parkinson patients. This study has indeed been published in the ls of Neurology for October. The study was led by Dr. Cliff Shults. I posted the abstract yesterday. If you want to read the full paper you'd have to go to a medical library or you can probably purchase a copy online. The pubmed link is here and you can try clicking on the ls of Neurology to see if you can get the full article. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi? cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=12374491 & dopt=Abstract Regards, Pam > > > href= " file://C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery\ " > > > Hi guys, > > > > Bill, that was a news article taken from an actual study.
