Guest guest
Natatlie, Your post was interesting to me because I am also a runner and have been annoyed by the thought that I will no doubt lose muscle mass and stamina before I can hit the road again. I am curious about when you had your surgery and what you had done. I am one week post op (upper and lower) right now and I wouldn't dream of running yet. Eeeee, the teeth banging thing sounds disturbing! My plan is to start swimming and taking substantial walks after two weeks is up. I'll move to running after a month My surgeron suggested that there be no excersize before, but said I could start " training " again after a month. Anyway, will be interested to hear! Guest guest
Jessie, I had upper and lower jaw surgery also on July 14th. My OS said I could start swimming and jogging 2 weeks post-op, but I didn't even try until 3 weeks, and i tripped over a tree root. Discouraged, I waited another week before attempting again, and did fine. I've ran for the last 3 days in a row with my bands on, which makes it a little difficult to breathe. The bands give some leeway to open your mouth, so when I try to relax my jaw, the lower bangs the upper a little, but its not bad or painful. So i try clenching without clenching too hard. I think next time I'm going to try it without the bands and just keep my mouth open while I run. The first week post-op I went on walks with my mom which made me feel better and helped reduce some swelling. I think you'll be fine to start training again after a month. My jaw is just a little akward and uncomfortable feeling when I run, but not painful. Suprisingly, I don't feel that out of shape either, although I've lost a lot of muscle tone. What did your OS tell you about weight lifting post-op? Hope this helps and don't trip when you start running again like i did! > > Hey everyone!
