Guest guest
My kids arer a little older than some who have been writing in. I am 45 and at the time of my surgery, on 7/3/03 they were 18,14,11, and 8 Now 18,15,12, and almost 9. Just like those with younger kids, I wanted to be able to do more with them, ( and my husband) and to get down on the floor with my grandchildren. I have noticed that my stamina is better, and on our trip to Disney World 12/4 to 12/9, my legs did not ache. We walked a LOT, and my legs were tired, but the aching I had been experiencing when on my feet is gone. Also on 12/22 we had our annual gingerbread house construction day. It is a lot of work, and we hosted 14 people in addition to our family. I was on my feet for 15 hours making my houses, helping the younger house makers, serving food and drink to my family and guests, taking pictures, and at the end, cleaning up. ( It is very hard for them to get their own food during this event because every flat surface is covered with house pieces, candy, base boards, icing, icing bags, and glue guns, so we took orders and)delivered their food at their work areas) Again my legs did not ache and this was wonderful. I probably did too much lifting too soon, but I recovred well. In October I had my gall bladder out and some of the same incisions were opened. My recovery seemed a little harder that time, probably because of having a second surgery so soon. I lifted too much too soon again, I returned to my work as an Occupational Therapist within a week. I was very careful the first ten days, but then I started pushing wheelchairs and helping patients to come to stand, I don't know exactly how much I was lifting but I think it was too much. But I am all better now and back to transferring dependent patients, no pulling feeling when I perform this task. -- Jody
