Guest guest
Hay Jo, JO here! neat! Anywho...you shouldn't be there too long, but I would say a CD player or what not for some calming tunes...pad and pencil or wipe board for easy communication, a friend or loved one to stay if they let you bec you can always use a voice when your's is muted...chap stick, but stay with the natural ones, and not vaseline,it can work against you actually, if you have long hair, soemthing to keep it out of your way, a book or magazine, and I found that a small round like tubular pillow is wonderful...I made mine, but it can be a great neck rest or help your head from leaning too much one way or the other...and most of all bring patience...and relax. You will be fine...just remember you are doing this for YOU, it will be tricky sometimes, but those moments will fade as you heal. (how to for the pillow--so simple...get a bandana...fold it in half- not diagional-regular and stitch...turn right side out, stuff with pillow stuffing and tie off the ends with ribbon, like a giant wrapped candy...hope you can picture this...but it's great and simple if you have time or someone you love might want to help-even for after, I still use mine every nt-5wks post op bec it helps me rest on my forehead not chin....) GOOD LUCK! Guest guest
It depends on how long your hospital stay is going to be. If it's less than 24 hours then you don't need much. In fact I would say you don't need anything at all. I brought a change of clothes, a book, a can of ensure, toothbrush, etc, but I didn't need any of it. Actually it's more accurate to say that I wasn't in shape to use any of it. If you're going to stay for more than a brief overnight, then I'd go ahead and pack up some essentials. Otherwise, don't worry about it too much. --Neil > I am going in for double jaw surgery tomorrow night (Tuesday night > Australian time), and I was just wondering if anybody had any tips > as to what to take into hospital that would help with my jaw, apart > from the obvious essentials. Guest guest
I would assume that since you're having double jaw surgery, you'll be in the hospital for at least a couple of days. I'd suggest: 1) extra change of clothes (ie. underwear, shirt that you can button up b/c I don't think you'd want to squeeze your head into a shirt hole just yet..., socks, slippers, pajama pants or comfy pants) 2) wash cloth so you can dab your face clean in the mornings 3) hair comb so at least you can groom yourself a little bit 4) cd player or headset to pass the time 5) magazines 6) I'm a girl so I brought my favorite stuffed animal w/ me to hug but i think for the most part, you'll be taking lots of naps to recover from the anesthesia. I hope this helps. Guest guest
The one thing I found invaluable were Kleenex wet wipes. You can clean up a little and they made me feel a lot fresher. They are easy on your skin and are great for getting any of the dried blood (yuck) or anything like that. Easier to use than whascloths bedause they are already wet, and definetly something for lips. aquaphor or A & D ointment seem to the best things. Guest guest
The US hospital system is more draconian than most. I was in and out in 24 hours for both upper and lower surgery. I believe most other countries keep you in for a few days. Initially I felt like I was getting the bum's rush, but actually if you have a caregiver at home I think recuperating at home is much more pleasant. The noises, lights, and nurses constantly checking on you in the hospital gets old really fast. --Neil > > > I am going in for double jaw surgery tomorrow night (Tuesday > night > > > Australian time), and I was just wondering if anybody had any > tips > > > as to what to take into hospital that would help with my jaw, > > apart > > > from the obvious essentials.
