Matija, gloss.com is a company that sells Clinique products online,

an alternative to ordering at the Clinique site. gloss.com wouldn't

have anything to do with samples given out at Clinique counters.

Try Estee Lauder customer support: 1-. Ask

for " Clinique. " If they tell you about the money-back guarantee, tell

them that as a person with sensitive skin sometimes it takes you a

week to determine whether a product is good for you.

They may be able to help you. It's hard to insist since samples are a

courtesy, it's an " unwritten " policy of most if not all the better

cosmetic lines -- with the understanding that customers will buy

something at the same time, unless you're a known customer to them.

As I'm sure you know but others may not, with Clinique, always time

purchases/samples to coincide with free gift-with-purchase Bonus

Time.

Clinique has several good products. I really like their hair care

products -- their shampoos are excellent (and I hear good things

about their conditioners), as is their Shine hair serum, though it

contains simethicone. I use their make-up, so picking up a lipstick

or eyeshadow is no big deal for me. I'm less a fan of their shower

products or perfumes, and I would definitely avoid buying their anti-

perspirant -- that was a real waste.

But the best is to buy something from the Men's line -- it gets you

free samples and gift-with-purchase at the counter...and then there

are benefits when you get home. <g>

Hi Marjorie,

Actually gloss.com is owned by Estee Lauder Company. Back when every

company was scrambling to have an internet presence, independent

online cosmetic sites like eve.com, sephora.com and beautyjungle.com

were trying to negotiate with Estee Lauder(EL) to sell at least some

of their lines because EL Co. is the most profitable cosmetics

company in the US. I think Sephora was the only successful company

because it got permission to sell one of their lines online (Stila).

EL ultimately decided that they wanted to control their own slice of

the internet pie. They bought gloss.com, which had previously been

the online site for Chanel cosmetics information in the US. Chanel

decided to stick with EL, at least for gloss.com. Gloss.com's link to

Clinique takes you to the clinique.com site as a child window of

gloss.com's site.

I think you're right in suggesting that people call clinique's toll-

free number. It's best to go to the source. Another suggestion that I

can make is if you're a woman to take a man along to the Clinique

counter with you. By myself, I'm ignored and passed over for service.

With my husband, the salespeople make a beeline to us and give us any

sample we want. It is very strange and sexist, but it seems to work.

Hope that helps!

Matija

I didn't know that gloss.com is owned by Estee Lauder! I wondered why

there was such a close connection between the Clinique and Gloss

site.

I don't recall ever shopping at the Clinique counter with a guy, but

I noticed that they sure love selling their Men's line to me. I think

the line does well among gay men -- if mention of Clinique's Bonus

gift on Queer as Folk last year is any measure of success -- so it

may be they're looking to expand into the straight male demographics?

But I bet the real reason is that your husband is gorgeous, and

naturally attracts all women's attention. <g>
