Guest guest
Thanks for sharing the pics, Arde! That's one impressive gap you have there! My ortho does not believe I'm going to have a very big gap (I've tried to tell her about the pics of SARPE patients I've seen on the net) but I'm not sure she's not telling me the whole truth. She has not done that many RPE's with adults so she may be thinking of those gaps kids get in their much slower expansion processes. I think it's different when you jump start it by surgery! So I'm expecting to see a gap, too, no matter what she says. Mine is going to look really wild, I think, because my first bicuspids (the ones the front or the appliance is attached to) are where my lacking cuspids should be, and my lateral incisors (are those #2 teeth? I'm not sure what to call them) are rotated almost 180 degrees. Like these are my front teeth and the ones next to them: |--|. Get the picture? So there already are sort of gaps there. AAARGH, I'll try to post a photo soon, it's impossible to explain in words. Good luck with braces, too! - Joplin > I've posted some picture of my progression. Guest guest
Your welcome J. The size of the gap really does depend on how much space you need. If your laterals are rotated (I think you meant 90 degrees), and you have a class 3 cross bite on both sides you can expect to need 6 or more mm of space to correct it. That plus the over compinsation in anticipation of regression, and you'll need to go 8 or more mm in the expansion. Maybe your ortho doesnt think that a 8mm gap is VERY big... just sorta big. In any case, I think its awful and cant wait till tomorrow when we start ot close this bad boy. Oh yeah, update. This morning as I was trying to crank the appliance it froze. Now it wont budge and I bent two keys trying to turn it. I am not sure what happened, but I dont think I have reached the end of the screw as its supposed to be able to go up to 15mm. right now I am at 7mm hopefully its enough.
