Guest guest
Hey guys! Don't have a whole lot new to report. My muscles are still sore, and I discovered that the bones (I think?) are cold sensitive where the breaks are. When I drive with the air conditioner on my face it will hurt. Strange... I also appear to be swelling again on the right side. My hooks on the braces and the elastics attached to the hooks are irritating the stitches and I'm raw right where it's starting to swell. I hope it's not infected, I'm cleaning them with peroxide every day though, so it shouldn't be. I had my first post-op Orthodontist visit today and came home with some neat new torture devices in my mouth. It's hurting quite a bit, but I know it'll go away in a few days. We're working on expanding my upper jaw now. It's wide enough that I didn't need the surgery, but the teeth have been pointing inwards. So, I have a reverse curve arch wire (I think that's what he called it) that forces my teeth outward. I also have one of these reverse curve wires on my lowers with the wire modified in the back to arch upwards to help erupt the molars. I also have a neat configuration of elastics that appear to be rotating my entire set of lower teeth to the left (my jaws are straight, but my midline is a little off on the bottom. It's been like this as far back as I can remember). I should have asked him if that's what the elastics were doing. When I asked how long it was going to take to bring my bite together he laughed and said it'll be a while, months probably. He told me I had the surgery a bit sooner than he would have liked, and he would have rather started expanding the upper jaw first. But, I only have until the end of this month before I lose my health insurance so we rushed it a bit. No biggie, I'm glad it's over, and if I have to deal with a bit more orthodnotics post-op because of it, I can deal with it. I see my OS again in a week. He'll be pulling my stitches out, as they haven't completely dissolved yet. And he'll either tell me I can finally soft chew, or make me wait another week. Either way, I think it'll be more than a couple weeks before I can do much chewing. So far so good. I'm still very happy with the results, and very happy I went through with the surgery. ~Jen

Guest guest
Hey Jen! Glad to hear all is well with you. I'm having some issues with my stitches too. On the left side there is a long one that keeps gagging me and on the right side, they are getting caught on either the band or my braces. This just started yesterday, I went to open my mouth and had a sharp pain that I realised was the stitches over there. I've pushed them back out of the way and I'm just going to be careful with them until I see my OS tomorrow. Hopefully he'll trim them down. I don't have any toward the front anymore, those were the ones that were bothering me before, but my toothbrush took care of them! I'm gonna wait until tomorrow to post my update because I see my OS then! Have a good day! Hope that cold sensitivity goes away soon, winter's coming (unless you are in the south?). Guest guest
Hi Kim! I'm looking forward to your update! I beginning to think a big part of the irritation post-ortho is the arch wire. I think it may be sticking out a little far on the upper right and lower left and poking the irritated stitches.. I'm going to keep an eye on it, I won't be able to see the ortho again until Monday, I'm headed down to Colorado Springs for the rest of this week. And winter is definitely coming! I live in the Denver area. -Jen > > Hey guys! > > > > Don't have a whole lot new to report.
