Hi! I have been lurking around this group for a couple months,

now...ever since I asked if it was possible to be approved for the

surgery when your insurance policy says that they do not cover any

treatment of obesity at all. Well, your advice to give it a shot was

right on target. I was approved on the first try!!!!! I had my

psychological today, and am just waiting for my surgery date. (I don't

know how long the waiting list is.) I am thrilled, excited, scared to

death and totally in shock at how fast this has all become a reality!!!

Now that it IS a reality, I have a couple questions that I'm hoping

you can help me with. First, what is the difference between whey and

soy protein drinks? At GNC they have both, and I don't know what to

try. The lady at the store said that the soy tastes better, but I've

heard most of you talking about whey. Does it matter? I'd like to be

prepared with something I can tolerate before I go to the hospital.

Secondly, I think somebody said that anti-wrinkle cream can help

with the droopy skin problem. Was that just an old wives tale, or does

that really help? Have any of you tried this?

And last, I have a HUGE favor to ask. I have 10 children...2 grown

biological kids and 8 adopted kids. My adopted kids have been through a

lot...they were abused in every possible way, before we got them, and

they still have some problems with stability. The 7 at home range in age

from 8 - 19. I've talked to them about the surgery, and they are scared

but happy for me. Only the oldest, who is 19 (going on 12,

emotionally), is really upset. She tears up when she just looks at me,

ever since I got the call from the surgeon's office. I've said all the

things I can, about the benefits of the surgery, etc. But she has

always been terrified of losing me, and to her, this surgery is like my

signing up to possibly die and leave her. She understands how much I

want this and why, but she is very afraid. I don't know if it will

help, but I thought if a few of you could write a short note to her

specifically and tell her what a good decision this was for you, it

might make it easier for her. Maybe if she hears from people who have

gone through this and are happy and ALIVE, she might feel better. If

you choose to send her a note, just put " " in the subject. I'll

appreciate any help you can give me. I'm going to go through with

this...for me...regardless, but I want it to be as easy as I can for the

kids.

Thanks for all your help...and for these months of tips and

encouragement I've gleened. I'm excited to become an active member of

this special group!

Dear

this is so strange because I have a good friend named Cindy

that had her surgery in August!!! I wish you the best of luck. As

far as the protein drinks go, I found that what I could tolerate

before surgery was not necessarily the same after. It will be trial

and error for you for a while. I have a friend that can eat things

I can't and (we are both 1 year post op) I can eat a few things she

can't. each person will tolerate different things. I can't do

potatoes!!!! Make me sick every time. She can eat a hot dog!

Listen to you Dr. amd follow the advise to the letter, Do NOT push

yourself to try things if you are not ready!!! The protein is the

most important part, I slacked off on mine and my hair started

falling out. I did not like the whey, preferred the soy.

You dream is coming true and you will find it almost hard to accept

the fact that THIS TIME it is really going to happen. It IS!!!

Congrats. You will be thin now. It is a whole new world and alot

of adjustment. I found emotions that were buried under fat. Get

close to God and trust him to help you through the different

feelings you will find. As far as your daughter goes, mine did the

same thing. I had to accept within myself that fact that I was not

doing this for anyone else. Just me. So I could look in the mirror

and be happy with what I saw. Explain in whatever way works with

her, that this is YOUR dream and you deserve to have a dream come

true, just as you try to make hers come true. I just bought my

first pari of size 10 pants... I have NEVER worn that size and still

cannot believe it!!Live your dream... live it for yourself... and

everyone else will learn to celebrate with you. Let me know how you

are doing!!
