-Hi KIM, firstly welcome to the group. I have to admit im not

around here much and came across your post catching up.

I think jo has answered alot of your questions there. Im only 19

myself so cant really say alot for experience, other than my own

surgery. I also had a class III case, but an underbite. I didnt

really have any tmj or anything like that, but i have to agree with

jo that i felt better for having my braces. Its something about the

assurance of starting that journey and getting it under way. The

only downside in my case my bite became worse, im not sure whether

that is the case for everyone. my ortho said he had to use the

braces to make my bite worse, to allow my surgeon to fix it. At the

age of 12/13 i never really understood this until i found out that i

had to have my wisdom teeth taken out prior to the inital jaw

surgery. Something about the bone surrounding where the wisdom

teeth would be being weak/frail, and taking them out at the same

time as doing the jaw surgery makes the prediction of the break less

erm predictable. So removing them before gives that area of the

bone less time to heal.

From my point of view i would say that 30's young. Most people on

this site as well as are surgoens/orthos say its best to have this

surgery done when you are younger as you bounce back as quick,

however there are several members on this site which i wont offend

by saying their old, but rather more wise.hahaha their journeys have

been pretty smooth too, although recovery maybe slower.

It was the unknown that led me to finding this site a week before my

jaw surgery. I have to admit i was scared but i think the

excitement and anixety had pretty much over ruled it by then. In

that week i learnt so much and was offered so much support it was

brilliant. I went into surgery knowing what to expect when to wake

up. Having an idea of how i would feel, what i should expect in the

first few days post op, the effects of medicene, everything you

could possibly imagine the people on here told me! they were so

great!!! and really helped wipe out that fear! BY simply commenting

on their own experiences.

I hope you find your answers to all your questions here.

Good luck with everything!!!! Ask lots of questions to settle that

worry!!!!!!!!

Kind Regards,

Kat_UK
