Diabetes is very serious. It affects your eyes, heart, every organ in your

body. That is why I am so thankful for this surgery. I had this surgery because

of my diabetes. I now have all normal sugar readings. I do not have it any

longer.

, glad you got some info regarding insurance and the surgery. About

possible Diabetes, I personally wouldn't wait a month. My feet were

numb-ish for 3 years prior to the main symptoms showing up....all this time

doing nerve damage. I even had my doctor look at my feet because I was

concerned....apparently he wasn't concerned. The lab work I get is a

fasting test, blood sugar, H1AC (long time blood sugar), and recently an

insulin level. I would call the doctor's office, and tell them your concern

about possible Diabetes, and request a blood test.

Leaving it is not good. As I had no clue that most of my family had

Diabetes (no real contact with most of them), I hadn't a clue as to what was

wrong with me. For 5 months, I put up with all of it, until I found out

about the family history, and immediately made an appointment. For those

that know what blood sugar levels are, mine was 596!!

, Glad you're getting tested. If you didn't fast for the test

yesterday, that test is not what you need. It must be a fasting test.

Ok, the doctor called me like 30 mins. after I called him and said

he wanted me in within the next 2 days to get tested for diabetes,

and he sounded very worried, that I am, or that's just how he is. I

am going in friday. I didn't realize diabetes was so serious, thanks

all!

He said he heard a Palipatation in my heart, what doea that mean?

O, and on my insurance the confusion was that I am not on Tricare

Prime, the free insurance, I am on Tricare Standard, which means I

pay a 15 percent deductible. She said I could go to any doctor who

performs a gastric bypass without a referral. All I needed was my

file saying I am morbid obese. I was like heck yea! I am going to

fill the doctor in friday and still see who he has in mind, I am

still going to wait on the results of my test. She also said tricare

will not cover cost of any diet that the doctor puts me on with

weight loss pills, just surgery!

How much is a Gastric Bypass??? Cause I need 15% of that! And it's

tax time...

OS i am skipping lunch again to see if dinner makes me space out...

the last time though if it does!

I am in Florida.

What is your maximum Out of Pocket.

Many insurances have percentage copay until you hit the maximum Out of Pocket..

then they cover at 100%.

Call your insurance company again and get those particulars.. :)

Hope you feel better!

Hi K,

Well I am on tricare standard I only pay 15 percent of any surgical

procedure with a 100 deductible. But I called them and I am getting

transferred to prime, its completely free as long as I am at high

risk and doctor refers me.

Tonight I laid down cause the back of my head was pounding, and my

body got real heavy and I zoned out, all I could feel was my ears,

but they felt like they were moving. My heart was pounding, I could

feel it all over!!! Scared me, I am so glad I am going to the doctor

friday!!!

Hypoglycemia is when you have too little sugar (well that is a very

simplistic description). Diabetics cannot control their glucose through

normal body functioning so we can become both " hypo " (low blood sugar) or

hyper (high blood sugar).

So no that is not type 1 diabetes. They have changed the way type 1 and

type 2 are defined over the last 10 years or so. Type 1 was once considered

juvenile diabetes (meaning it onset during childhood) and type 2 was

considered Adult Onset (Meaning the onset happened in your adult years).

Now most (not all but most) Dr's refer to type 1 as being insulin dependent

and type 2 being non-insulin dependent. So the next question would be

" Don't all diabetics use Insulin? " . The answer is no. Type 2 diabetes are

usually resistant to their own insulin. Their pancreas actually produces

insulin it just either makes too little or the body resists its absorption

and so they don't get it in the amounts the body needs. There are oral

medications that can be used by some people that can do a couple of

different things. Some help the body accept the insulin it makes and others

increase the production of insulin. If you can control the diabetes with

oral medication than you are considered type 2 or non insulin dependent.

Some people (like me) cannot (well for me past tense...could not) control

their diabetes without insulin. The pills never helped me and I was

dependent on Insulin. So even though my diabetes was onset when I was an

adult I was type 1. One Dr said to be completely accurate I was a " type 2

diabetic who presented as type 1 " ...but that gets way too confusing.

So hopefully that helps and didn't confuse your further.

And it's

OS i am skipping lunch again to see if dinner makes me space out...

the last time though if it does!

My neighbors daughter is Type 2 and is insulin dependant, she said

all type 2's are, and not all but some type 1's are insulin

dependant.

Thanks for the info, but it does seem they could make thing simpler!
