Guest guest
Crystal, I was told any liquid counted, but I'm sure there's many opinions. I tried the Crystal Light, and was way too sweet for me (this from a sugar addict).... so I cut it 1/2 again with water, and it still too sweet. But I am going to try it again, because the water does get tiring. The only time I really add a lot of water is if I have diarrhea. I drink decaf coffee in the a.m. but never finish one cup...in fact one is sitting her at the computer 1/2 full of very cold coffee. Bought more Snapple today as it's handy to grab and run when we go out. I drink lemon tea sometimes when I feel dreamy and tired. It's so soothing. Guest guest
Crystal, I know how you feel! I get so tired of water that I could just scream. Try adding some lemon juice to it to make your own lemonade. You could even add a packet of splenda to sweeten it if you like. Crystal lite and SF Koolaid DOES count towards that water intake as per my surgeon. Crystal lite is way too sweet for me but I do like the tropical flavor of the sf koolaid. Also, Herbal teas that are caffeine free can be considered part of your water intake. I tried the apple cinnamon and added one packet of sugar in the raw (only 5 grms per pack) which kept it within the sugar limits that the surgeon set for me. It was not real sweet but it gave it enough flavor that I was able to drink it. Being from the south...prior to surgery I liked some tea with my sugar!! LOL My surgeon said I could even count fruit juice such as apple or orange juice. I try to drink about 2-3 oz of apple juice per day just to help keep my regular. I get the unsweetened kind of course. Hope this helps. By the way...you are doing wonderful with your fluid intake. I did not reach my 64 oz per day until I was over 8 weeks post op. Guest guest
Vickie, I saw those in Walmart and bought one of each flavor. They were all too sweet for me. I was so hoping that I would like them too. It seems that almost everything is too sweet for me since the surgery. I even have to dilute the SF Koolaid. I still have not found a protein drink that I can get down. I try 2 sips and feel sick. I try hard to eat protein throughout the day and hopefully it will eventually be enough. (I am starting to lose my hair now). The only protein I found that I like is the Proplete Vanilla Pineapple. I mixed it with some SF vanilla ice cream and some skim milk and it was pretty good. I need to find some more of it as I only had a sample that a friend gave me. Glad the Fruit 2o is working for you. Take a look at Walmart for the Fruit 2o. That's where I found it. Isn't it weird how we are all so different in everything after the surgery? God Bless Shelley D > Hey...I found a new idea for water that I just LOVE! Guest guest
I was a little concerned yesterday talking to the doctor about getting the 50-60 gm. protein they want me to have at this stage. They want 1/2 my meal as protein, the rest fruit & vegetable. So it's tough to get enough. But she told me to get protein bars at Costco which have 30gm of protein, cut into 6 pieces, and eat throughout the day, then I only need an additional 30 gm. of protein in my meals. Haven't tried the bars yet, but have bought others with 26 gm. that are o.k. I don't think any of them are wonderful, but small pieces are fine. She said so far all her patients like them. Of course, protein is an area that varies so widely, but for now I'm trusting what they tell me. I am getting scads of lab work tomorrow to see how it's going. BTW, whoever suggested spaghetti squash was a genius!! I cooked one, and for dinner last night I had it with spag. sauce w/meat. It may have actually been better than noodles. It's got more of a crunchy taste to it. Joan LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282pre-op/275surg/241/

Guest guest
When I was only a few weeks it was important to drink but there's no way to meet all the requirments for a few month's. You might try just drinking what you can and not worry if it's water or another sugar free beverage. Just don't substitute coffee for fluids for the day, then you'll be fine. For a few month's it was very hard for me to drink water so the sugar free koolAde got me through. Good luck! > ok. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO > tired of water. Guest guest
Joan, that spagetti squash is something I've enjoyed for years. Here's one step further.... stripped zuccini's. just take your potato peeler to the zuccini and make long strips I call zuccini noodles. This makes another wonderful bed to pour your favorite sauce over OR even stir it up with a can of diced tomato's and an onion with chicken or beef. What a joy!!! > I was a little concerned yesterday talking to the doctor about getting the > 50-60 gm. protein they want me to have at this stage.
