Guest guest
My saga of repairing my end-to-end bite has been a long one. I was in braces when I was 13; My orthodontist did not recognize that my problem could not be repaired with braces alone and that I was too young at the time. That year in braces was a wash. I have been in the Army for over 9 years now. I have wanted to fix my bite for a long time. In 2000, when I got to Fort Carson, CO, I finally get my chance. I had brace reinstalled in October 2001, with an estimated surgery date of one year later. I wasn't quite ready in the fall of 2002 which slipped into spring 2003. Then guess what happened? I deployed to Iraq for a year. My orthodontist replaced my rubber bands with wires; I was in a holding pattern for a year. Then I was going to be all set fot surgery upon my return to Colorado. No such luck. I was required to change stations to Virginia. The good news is that I am allowed to stay here to get my surgery: at Walter Army Medical Center. I am finally getting the surgury on my upper jaw on 4 November. That makes over 3 years since having braces installed. Has anyone had a one-piece upper jaw advancement? My surgeon says mine is pretty textbook, which is a little encouraging. Carl Ballinger
