Guest guest
If they told you the truth, nooone would ever get started into this. I'm supposed to be in medical school next fall, and now it looks like I'm going to be making trips back to Orlando for adjustments. I was told 16 - 18 months -- I just had surgery (oct 5th) which is month 13. I don't think I'll be done in another 3 months. Do you? > > I'd just like to take a little survey here - have any of you had your > treatment, from ortho through to surgery and out of braces, estimated > accurately? Guest guest
I was an unusual one. My ortho, who has many, many years of experience, told me at the outset, " 18-20 months. " Sure enough, the braces came off in the 20th month -- even though I had delayed things a whole month by coming down with shingles on one side of my face. There are many things that can change original estimates, though. Your teeth may move more quickly, or more slowly than expected, for example. Something may be really, really stubborn. And you have to take it relatively slowly, or you risk root resorption, which you do not want. Good wishes to you. I understand I may be lucky, but I was given a pretty accurate schedule, pre- op that is. First, braces for 12 months pre-op. Then four months break while the surgery is being done and my bones healed. After that, initially, the ortho planned on keeping me 12 months in braces after the surgery. It changed for 6 months once he first saw me after the surgery. And last month, he told me I'd be braces free (upper only) in 4 weeks, two months before the initial schedule. He commented on the efficiency of the surgery, especially for the upper jaw. The bottom jaw may take lower as a problem has developped in the rear, on the left side. For some reason, 3 teeth have started to migrate to their initial position. That's no big deal because the bones are still pretty much soft, so it's a matter of 2 or 3 months more. So, instead of ending in January, I may be ending in March. As long as I'm no longer in braces in June, I'm still a happy camper!
