Guest guest
I'm glad to hear that you're doing just fine. I slept through the night last night, but of course, I don't feel well-rested. I'm still congested beyond belief, and my nose really hurts from all the rubbing and squeezing I had to do coming right out of surgery. I have a humidifier in my room, and I think that helped me to get some yuck out of my nose before I got out of bed, but still no luck breathing. The roof of my mouth, my bottom lip, and some areas around my chin are extremely numb, and my doctor said to expect that in the coming weeks. Today is the last day that I'll have to wear ice packs, so I'm happy about that. I've been eating variou things through the sip and squeeze. I'm kind of hungry, but it's really hard to eat since I cannot breathe through my nose, and I am still so numb. It sounds as though you're dong great. I've heard that the third day after surgery is the worst for many reasons, so once I get today beind me, I know that I'll really start to feel some improvement. Keep me posted on your progress! Guest guest
It is normal to be completely numbe, I was numbe from just below my eyes to my chin. It will go away little by little. Are you using the Zip n Squeeze bags? I'm surprised you have only been able to do apple juice. If you have the bags try the heavier one, if you can put the straw far enough into you mouth and squeeze it make it easier to eat, I would actually laen back it the recliner and put the straw in and squeeze gently and let gravity help to get the food to the back of my mouth to swallow. Try some beans blended with chicken broth to thin them out, or oatmeal thinned with milk. both of these options will give you some energy and fill you up. I bought baby cereal and used that the first week. It was a life saver. Marsha > > How are you feeling today? Since it's Friday, this is the peak > swelling day (T+3). As far as eating, beyond water and snapple, he tried some watered down yogurt with honey in it yesterday and that went really well. As far as brushing, I dont think he has attempted that yet. Swelling has gone down progressively since day one, I was really suprised at that! The numbness he says is from midcheek down but is starting to regain some sensations this morning. I know he has been pretty miserable, and really having trouble with nasal congestion. This is quite an experience, hang in there! Guest guest
You should definitely be taking in nutrition now, and yesterday! You need to give your body some calories to nourish the healing. How about broth? Maybe warm, or congealed, if that's easier for you. (I can't remember whether you're wired shut -- sorry.) It is good that you're keeping up with the liquids; that's important, too. Try a baby toothbrush, and while you're investing, get one or two of those little rubber-coated baby spoons, too. That will help. Ask your doc when it will be safe for you to use a Waterpik, too. Yes, numbness is more usual than not, alas. Best, Cammie > > How are you feeling today? Guest guest
Hey, I had upper/lower/genio surgery Oct 5th also to fix a crossbite. I was not wired, banded, or anything. For brushing, I use a regular youth toothbrush for the front, and a Christmas tree looking thing my ortho gave me (small wire brush that I can bend, then fit through the gap between my teeth) for the back of the teeth. It seems to work pretty well. The swelling has gone down, although my chin/cheeks are still pretty fat still. One side of my chin/lower lips are numb, although the other side seems fine. One thing though is that I feel really light-headed and I don't know why. I haven't lost any weight since surgery, and I've been eating and drinking regularly. Maybe it's because I'm starting to lay off the hydrocodone pain medication and getting widthdrawal effects from the narcotics? Anyway, I have an appt with the surgeon tomorrow. Let me know how the rest of you are doing =) BTW ceast36532, I think I remember you mentioned Dr. Riley & Dr. in previous posts. They were my surgeons--did you have them as well? Guest guest
you lucky dog jason! i wanted to go to powell and riley but would have had to stay with friends for a couple weeks and didn't want to burden them. so i settled for third best and regretting it. are they expensive? as far as the lightheadedness goes when I asked my doc about it he said to make sure i was properly hydrated as hydrocodone will will do a number on you. I still have half a bottle after two surgeries. good luck on the recovery, it sounds too good to be true so far. eric > > Hey, > > I had upper/lower/genio surgery Oct 5th also to fix a crossbite. Guest guest
Ohh right, it was cpapsuks1 who mentioned Riley & before, not ceast36532 (heh, can't keep track of those c-names). How did you know of them? Everybody tells me they're super good, but I haven't found anything online saying so, except for the fact that they've written tons of research papers. Anyway, I don't think it was that expensive compared to everyone else- -for me, it was $10,750 per jaw, and insurance (United Healthcare PPO) covers $6,450 each, making it $8,600 for both jaws after insurance. Genioplasty was an extra $1500 out of pocket, which they normally charge $3500. This is for doctors fees alone, not counting the separate hospital fees, anesthesiologist, etc., which increase the cost dramatically. > > you lucky dog jason! i wanted to go to powell and riley but would have > had to stay with friends for a couple weeks and didn't want to burden > them. so i settled for third best and regretting it. are they > expensive? as far as the lightheadedness goes when I asked my doc > about it he said to make sure i was properly hydrated as hydrocodone > will will do a number on you. Guest guest
jason, powell and riley are renowned for their pioneering work in the study of sleep disorders. they train some of the best in bimax advancement and do thousands a year. I've spoke with several people on other forums who've also been fortunate to have the very best and all were very satisfied with their outcomes and treatments. their prices sound very reasonable for their level of care and blue cross would have paid 100% for me. really starting to regret not going. hope your recovery goes well. eric > > > > you lucky dog jason! i wanted to go to powell and riley but would > have > > had to stay with friends for a couple weeks and didn't want to > burden > > them. so i settled for third best and regretting it. are they > > expensive? as far as the lightheadedness goes when I asked my doc > > about it he said to make sure i was properly hydrated as > hydrocodone > > will will do a number on you. Guest guest
I went in today for my 1 week post-op.. When I asked him why my upper midlines were off, he didn't have an answer for me, but did say that Ortho should be able to fix it. I'm going to stay tightly banded for another 2 weeks, then the splint comes off! That works out well, because two days later, I'm going to be going to Chicago for 5 days -- althought I'm not sure if I'll be able to actually eat solid food by then or not. -Blake > > Hey, > > I had upper/lower/genio surgery Oct 5th also to fix a crossbite.
