Guest guest
Nic, I went through this, I had almost constant excruciating pain for about 4 weeks, from week 5 to about week 9 or 10. My problem turned out to be a dislocated cartiledge on the right side, which was causing the joint to press on the nerves. It was probalby the worst pain I've had in my life. It was diagnosed through an MRI and CT scan. I then went through extensive physical therapy and home exercises and it eventually slipped back into place. There were othe option if that had not worked with the most extreme option being arthroscopic surgery to slide the disc back in place. I will have my last PT session on Wednesday (6 weeks 3 x a week) and hopefully be done with this. Are ypu having trouble opening? I was only able to open 12 mm when the pain was at it's worst. Guest guest
Marsha, I wouldn't say that it was the most excruciating pain, so I don't think I have what you had (well at least certainly not as extreme), but it is very uncomfortable. The headaches are bothering me just as much as the joint pain itself. I've already had the pain for about 2 months now and it seems to be getting worse. I can open a fair distance, but it hurts to do so, so I try to avoid doing it. I've heard that these kind of problems are usually temporary, but mine has already lasted a while and is getting worse. I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow but I'm worried it will never get better! Thanks. Nic. > > > > Hello all. > > I had lower advancement 9mm and genio 6 mm, 3.5 months ago. Guest guest
Nic, I have the exact same problem. First 4 weeks, I was on splint so had very minimal jaw movement. After 4 weeks, the splint was taken out and the joint pain started. It is only on my right side and my lower midline is also shifted to the right. The dentist that works with the surgeon said that it is normal to have joint pain and that my allignment is off but will be fixed by final braces and that I should continue to do my jaw exercises. The pain is tolerable most of the time and it does come and go but constant. It does not hurt when I open my mouth but I can tell that it limits how wide I can open it. It mostly hurts when I do lateral jaw movements (side to side). It also hurts when I talk and certain jaw positions triggers this sharp pain. It feels like an ear infection. I take OTC pain relievers and ice it and that helps a little bit. It has only been a week and my next appointment is tomorrow. My concern is that my jaw is not alligned properly and it's pinching a nerve or something and that this is permanent. I will let you know the results tomorrow. > > > > > > Hello all. > > > I had lower advancement 9mm and genio 6 mm, 3.5 months ago. Guest guest
Call your surgeon and or your ortho. Yes others have had it. Some have needed treatment, and for some it has gone away by itself. For a few, it gets worse if you do nothing. Good luck, Cammie > > Hello all. > I had lower advancement 9mm and genio 6 mm, 3.5 months ago. Over the > last couple of months I have been getting pain in my right jaw > joint. Guest guest
Beth, Sounds like you've got exactly the same problem. All your symptoms are identical to mine. My lower midline has also shifted slightly to the right, but my braces came off last week so I don't think they'll be able to do anything about that! Let me know how you go.
