Who did you have for insurance?

I just read the recent posted messages about insurance problems and I

was wondering who your insurance carriers were? I'm only asking

because right now I'm waiting to hear back from my insurance carrier

BCBS of MASS about my pre-approval of surgery. Even though the

people who posted messages had problems with payment, I am assuming

the surgery was pre-approved....I can only hope I hear something

positive back from my insurance company within the next few weeks.

Thanks.

When I was first going about getting my surgery paid for, I didn't

have a job with health benefits. I applied for coverage through my

husband's company, which offers BCBS of TX. They declined my request

based on them not being able to cover anything after my 19th birthday.

I filed an appeal using a letter that had been successful for another

gentleman but cutting and pasting over the parts that were pertinent

to me. Again, I was denied for the same reason. Many people may or

may not know this, but just because BCBS of TX covered his surgery and

not mine was not the fault of BCBS, but rather the group coverage that

my husband's company opted to carry. From what I understand, the

group number made all the difference, which is most likely why this

gentleman with the same problems as me was covered, and I wasn't.

Luckily, once my health benefits kicked in at my place of employment,

it was one of the few carriers that my OS accepts. My insurance

coordinator filed for a coverage request with them, and it was granted

without any hesitation.

We were really in a pickle over how we were going to pay for my

surgery there for a few months, but we were fortunate that everything

worked out in the end.

Now, we're just waiting for all the bills from the hospital to get

everything straightened out once and for all.

I have Vytra--usually a very maxiofacial-friendly company...and

again, most was, but the sudden change to deny genio 2 wks pre-op was

surely not...and slow pay...they tell me at the OS, this IS Vytra's

normal pace.

They DID approve (unchanged) upper, lower and a 2 nt stay...they

actually denied the genio when they approved the change from

outpatient to 2 nt stay...exchange????dunno, but raw deal for sure.

Don't know about BCBS...sorry.

Just get as much as you can in writing and log calls and

representatives bec you can't imagine the he said-she said they can

play.....(my customer serv rep told me when I called after the change

to NO on genio that her computer system showed I was never covered

for it...and I was STARING at TWO letters signed and approved by V as

she said it!!)Hmm!

Good luck with the surg! JO

Dear Nate,

I live in Boston. What are you having done, who is your surgeon, and in

what hospital will you be? I also have BCBS of Mass and I have gotten

pre-approval for my November surgery. The question is, what does pre

approval mean? Is your surgeon in network?

Who did you have for insurance?
