Re: eating after SARPE?

Your surgeon is the best person to ask this question.

I would guess that you won't want to be driving while you're on any

of the more potent (i.e., narcotic) painkillers, if you find you need

them. See the above post from one of our friends, though, who just

had the SARPE and didn't need the stronger stuff.

Is there nobody who could be your chauffeur, at least for a few days?

Or is there any form of public transit that could work for you? A

taxi, even. (Expensive, but not as much so as an auto wreck that

could break your jaw, God forbid!) Ask your doc if he has any

suggestions. These fellas have dealt with almost everything, and he

may have an idea.

It still amazes me that this procedure can be done for so many people

with so little pain. I didn't have one, but the description, by many

accounts, is far worse than the experience.

Good wishes to you!

Tim,

I was on a soft/liquid diet for a week. Also I avoided eating and

drinking anything hot for the first week because of the stiches.

Thereafter I went back to eating whatever I can with the expander on,

which alone makes eating a challenge.

After the surgery I had some chocolate pudding and yoghurt and slip-

down-easy-stuff like that. You may feel some soreness in the stiched

areas when you eat for the first couple of days but that will get

easier.

You are not supposed to drive for 24 hours after the surgery because

of the medication you'll be given in the anesthesia. Take a cab or

ask someone to drive you there and back. I treated myself with cab

drives. In fact I'm treating myself with anything that makes this

hassle easier on me :)

BEST OF LUCK, TIM!
