Guest guest
I don't think the Le Fort 1 and the SARPE are the same -- although some surgeons do palate expansions on some patients in the process of the Le Fort. Why not call the surgeon's office, and tell someone on staff there that you are confused, and would appreciate it if they can check and see what you're headed for? Guest guest
Hi, Kim. I am scheduled for a LeFort I Osteotomy to expand my palate. As I understand things, this is different from SARPE. From what I've read, the two procedures provide different results for different areas of the mouth (specifically more widening at the front or back, I think). It sounds like people with SARPE are having the palate split in the middle (resulting in a gap between the front teeth for a short time). I'm having a " segmental " LeFort I which means I'll have the palate split on each side. Right now the ortho is making a small separation near my canines so that the surgeon will have room to work in January. You might want to check with your doctor before you contact the insurance company. It could be that they only cover the LeFort procedure. No sense muddying the waters if you've been approved for coverage!
