Guest guest
I am glad you have healed this well. THe thing is that my surgeon mentioned that the scars actually build up like a small bump around the gum line and once you run your tongue around you can feel them. I was really turned off by that since I have some gum issues as well and didnt want to have more gums scars and recession etc. I have to clarify more with them. Maybe he is not using disolvable stitches and that is the reason? > > > > Hi all, > > > > I know most of these lower jaw surgeries have the incisions done > > inside the mouth so nothing visible remains on the outside. Guest guest
Hi, I'm just 2 years post-op (upper/lower/genio), and when I looked at my gums recently, I could find no sign of the scars I had post-op. I didn't do anything special (other than homeopathic remedies given to me by my homeopath which aided tissue healing). Prior to that, you could see white scars where I was stitched up. > > Hi all, > > I know most of these lower jaw surgeries have the incisions done > inside the mouth so nothing visible remains on the outside. Guest guest
I haven't gone in there with a flashlight and mirror to check, but I can definitely feel a ridge of scar tissue on my right cheek, inside. (I had a weird wisdom tooth with an extra cusp, and until I got the description right, they had trouble grinding enough of it off to keep me from biting the scar tissue, which probably complicated things.) I think I feel some of the same, but not so big, on the other side. I haven't looked at the gums, really, and so I don't know. But I'm not aware of much -- maybe one very small ridge in the tissue right next to my lower molars, on the buccal side, on each side. Once we got the biting stopped, no problems with any of it. Guest guest
THanks for the input. I simply dont want to have any major scars and I already have gum problems so that worries me. But when I went and asked again my surgeon he said there will be a ridge on the lower chin (if genio is done) that wont go away and you can run your tongue and feel it. Now that contradicts what others are saying here that with proper healing, like good stitching, vitamin E oil, and Mederma medication, the incisions will smooth out over time. I will check with some of the nurses too and see. By the way, are you saying that homeopathy was the difference in getting those wounds scars heal? Or was it simply the passage of time? > > > > Hi all, > > > > I know most of these lower jaw surgeries have the incisions done > > inside the mouth so nothing visible remains on the outside. Guest guest
Hi, I don't have any ridge that I can feel on the lower chin (gums area). Maybe it depends on the surgeon, I don't know. I do have a bit of extra tissue at the back on each side of my cheeks where my surgeon went in (for the lower surgery), sort of as Cammie described it, but I never really think about it. It's nowhere near my gums. What I see as being gone completely are the scars above and below my teeth in the gums where he did the upper surgery and the genioplasty. Well, I believe it's both homeopathy and the passage of time. The homeopathic treatments just kickstart the body's natural healing process, especially if it gets " stuck " at a particular stage of the healing, but it's the body itself that does the healing. It sure doesn't happen overnight! Patience required. > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > I know most of these lower jaw surgeries have the incisions done > > > inside the mouth so nothing visible remains on the outside. Guest guest
Well 1. they are internal so I doubt people can see them 2. I had a lower gum graft done a few years ago and there is a large spot where it is obviouse that is where the gum tissue is as its raised and very pale pink. For several months afterwards it was white but then tunred to pink as it grafted to the other gum tissue and revocered from the shock of the transplant. anyway this spot is much bigger then any scar you would have and its totally not visable inless I am brishing my teeth or looking at my gums. but not when smiling or talking. > > > > Hi all, > > > > I know most of these lower jaw surgeries have the incisions done > > inside the mouth so nothing visible remains on the outside.
