Guest guest
Hi Meera! I am going through the very same thing, as I am sure others here have too. Here is the way my doc put it so I wouldn't freak out (because I am usually a stickler for good skin): You have just been through a major surgery, and your body goes into massive overdrive for the healing process. Your bones are healing (and growing in places if room was made), your muscles and ligaments are learning to adjust to the new positions...with all these sudden changes, it's like your body thinks it is going through adolescence again. This change also may affect your hormones---thus acne. You should have seen me the first week and a half---so much oil on my face that my eyelids were sticking! I also had the misfortune of having to stop my birth control, which may have contributed to more pimples. Anyhoo, I took the advice of some folks in this group and started to use Nutrogena products. I use their new oil control cleanser that comes in a bigger tube (I think the line is called " Rapid Action " ), plus I use their astringent for oil control for touch-ups. If you go for the cleanser, make sure you spend at least 2 minutes washing your face GENTLY. Last week (which was my 3rd week post-op) I used it 3x a day, but now that my acne is beginning to subside, I use it 2x a day. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Just a word a warning, and I don't know if this will apply to everyone, but I started using all the neutrongena products after the surgery and it actually made my face worse. I had a facial done at about 7 weeks post-op and the woman who did it told me that all the stuff was probably too much for my face and was making my pores over- react, causing my face to get worse. I stopped using them (switched to something a little gentler) and it is better now (8 and a half weeks post-op). I wouldn't use anything stronger than you normally would use, just make sure to wash your face twice a day. You may just have to wait it out. As far as what causes it, I have heard that the steriods they use during the surgery can cause acne. Guest guest
Yes, that's true too that the steroids could cause acne. As far as Nutrogena is concerned, the only product that irritaed my skin was On The Spot pimple cream, only because it contained Bonzoyl Peroxide which I cannot tolerate. Otherwise the product I am using now causes absolutely no problems, plus it is just about the only thing I use now. Good points! Guest guest
Actuallyt he acne is a side effect from the steroids--I had a shot before I left the hospital that was active for ten days. some people have them prescribed. I just used noxzema pads all the time and made it through fine. Anyway the bads are nice because you can use several in a day and they are easy--I found it uncomfortable and akward and I am sure if there nerves weren't danger it would have hurt even more---to wash my face with normal products but the pads work well, dry the skin, and are again fast and easy to use! > > > > > > Hey > > > its been almost three weeks since my operation, and i have HUGE > > case > > > of Acne. Guest guest
Hey Thanks for the Info, it helped alot. I am sticking with Oil of Olay face cloths, and i wash my face twice a day and moisturize alot. Also i have started drinking water. My acne is not from steriods because i did not take any medication after my surgery. The only medicine i took was antibiotics for the first few days. I think in my case, my body is adjusting to bone and the new facial muscles. But thank you so much for the info. I shall keep you posted if my skin improves, if not I am going to use Netrogena! But thank you for responding! Meera > > > > > > > > Hey > > > > its been almost three weeks since my operation, and i have > HUGE > > > case > > > > of Acne.
