Guest guest
I didn't learn about pork roll till I started dating my hubby. When we worked at McGuire AFB we'd go into stown for lunch and a little diner had pork roll on a torpedo roll with cheese, fried onions and tomato/spag sauce. Yummmm, I can just feel my arteries hardening! I do have some scrapple in my freeze and also Carson's dried beef too! Go figure, you can't get either in Vegas. Ok, dried beef in a jar, what's the deal with that?? And did someone say something about Entenmanns?? We used to go to the thrift bakery in Bristol, get day old cakes and such. Nothing better than their cheese cake!! I'd spend a fortune there when I went back East. And the cool thing was they had a machine that would tie up all your items with string. I'd get on the plane with that and have the flight attendants undivided attention!! Toss in a few hoagies from Wa-Wa and I'd get a second meal too! (and in those days, that was very, very important to me!) RE: Re: may vs MW After we moved to Rochester, NY from NJ when I was a kid, we'd bring a big cooler on our trips back to NJ and fill it with Pork Roll so we'd have a supply until our next trip. After all this talk about fried bologna and pork roll, I'm craving a sandwich now. Nice & hot from the pan, right onto the bread with mayo AND mustard and a slice of cheese. Think I'll go have a shake since I don't have any pork roll or bologna or anything remotely close in the house & I'm not about to get back into that habit of getting in the car and going to the supermarket to feed my cravings. Guest guest
Ewww mystery meat....but why do I love it? Don't tell me what's in it PULEEZE! It hasn't killed me in 60 years, so I guess it's edible. They eat grasshoppers and very strange things in Japan, and are very healthy. Just our conditioning, I s'pose. Guest guest
I'm split when it comes to brown vs yellow mustard. Also it depends on how the taste buds are for the day. Yellow on Hot dogs, w/mayo and catsup on burgers. Brown on Deli sandwhiches like ham and cheese on Rye. Usually when I use the brown I have to mix it with a little Mayo so the spice won't burn after it goes down. Neci

Guest guest
One of my favorite comfort foods is bread, peanut butter, MW and sweet pickle . However I have slightly altered it to be more healthy: -Whole grain bread -Organic, salt free, sugar free peanut butter -My own pickle doctoring recipe (I take a jar of hamburger dills and add artificial sweetner and hot peppers) -There is absolutely no substitute for Miracle Whip BarbaraJean Re: may vs MW Ewww mystery meat....but why do I love it? Actually, I do use Miracle Whip for one thing - tartar sauce. It makes the BEST tartar sauce. Besides that though, it's Hellmans all the way (or Best Foods for you Western US folks). Is it possible for mayo folks and MW folks to live together in piece in a two condiment world? Guest guest
As soon as I hit the " send " button, I knew I had made a mistake. MW is only for certain things, like PB and pickle sandwiches and sometimes deviled eggs and egg salad. Generally I use Hellman's for almost anything else. We used nothing but MW when I was a kid, and mayo was an amazing discovery for me. I use it with a little dill to make tuna salad, although at home we used sweet pickles and MW. My point is that I am not on one side or the other. I am flexible. It is so important to me that everyone to know that! : ) BarbaraJean RE: may vs MW BarbaraJean wrote: " There is absolutely no substitute for Miracle Whip " My first thought when I saw this line was that I can think of a few substitutes for it. Guest guest
Ok, I have been staying OUT of this Mayo vs MW stuff. BUT there are just certain things that Mayo just doesn't do it for. One of those is my MOTHERS potato salad. She has always used MW and whenever I make it using mayo...it just isn't the same. Not to say that it isn't GOOD...but it isn't my MOM'S! I like mayo on Liverworst sandwiches and MW on turkey sandwiches. What can I say...I have a double personality when it comes to the white condiments? Now....lets talk MUSTARD!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Oh, mustard. I haven't found a mustard I didn't like. I love french's mustard for those wonderful hot dogs and hamburgers. Grey Poupon really spices things up and I occasionally use as a dip for chips (definitely an aquired taste.) If I had to choose between mustard, mayo, or Miracle Whip, I'll take mustard any day.
