And it is said that Duct Tape is like " The Force " --

It has a dark side...

It has a light side...

.... and it holds the universe together.

Ya' might want to be careful with that silver tape. My daughter and

her friends used to use sports tape to hold up breasts under clothing

that they didn't want to wear with undergarments. Well, one day they

had no sports tape and my daughter (not my brightest child) decided

that duct tape outta her father's garage would work just as well. So

out to the garage they troop, snatch the duct tape and proceed to

tape up that which jiggles and sometimes sags (but not on young

girls). Everything was just hunky-dorey until........that night when

they had to remove the tape. It came off with several layers of skin

attached to it! They had not anticipated that event. Needless to

say they all run at the very sight of duct tape even now years

later. So a word to the wise, use sports tape- not duct.

Okay, weird thread, but I gotta jump in here (as I like the wierd ones).

Being from Alaska, " Duct Tape " is revered here and is a household staple

(private joke for all Alaskans). When the Office of Homeland Security (Tom

Riche's office) recommended that all Americans stock up on " duct tape and

plastic sheeting " (which we also revere and term as " Visqueen, " ) we ALASKANs

laughed. When ya'll ran out of duct tape in your stores within hours (many

didn't even KNOW what duct tape was ... alors!!), we, up here in Alaska, had

our share of duct tape stockpiled, always on hand, and had no need to run to

the stores! (We also thought of how ridicious an idea that visqueen & duct

tape was going to keep chemical warfare out of homes ... but, that's another

story.)

Anyway, we use duct tape for anything and everything. In the cold and wet,

we use it on our skin all the time, with no relative problems at all. Our

mushers, both snow machiners and dog mushers, even use it on their faces (as

face masks) to protect against frostbite and wind. (As lame as it sounds,

we even have a " Duct Tape Ball " in the winter up here to break things up.

Formal wear all designed with duct tape! Right around the Iditarod race

time!)

Additionally, as ridiculous as it may sound, I even used it recently after my

panni surgery. The surgical tape that was adhering the surgical gauze over

my two drainage tubes kept coming off, and my drainage tubes kept catching on

one thing or another (ouch!!). So, my solution to the problem was to cover

the surgical tape & gauze with a couple strips of duct tape. Worked like a

charm!! I removed it periodically from this sensitive area and reapplied

(always OVER gauze) with no problems at all.

Just my experience with duct tape, but we Alaskans may have thicker skin than

most! =)

I have two philosophies in life:

1) If you can't fix it with duct tape and balin' wire, you need a new one.

2) If Wal-Mart don't have it, I don't need it.
