Guest guest
I am scheduled to have upper, lower, and tmj surgery in december. I know that you can't open your mouth for a while. I was wondering how one goes about using inhalers if they can't open their mouth. Does anyone else have asthma that has been through surgery and can give me advice? Thanks a bunch! Guest guest
I have asthma and I went through surgery in December 2003 (upper and lower). I was able to open my mouth enough to use my inhaler after surgery, but I didn't need it. I don't know if you'll be banded shut or not - and for how long. Or how severe your asthma is. But it wasn't a big problem in my case. You should talk with your doctor about your concerns. > > I am scheduled to have upper, lower, and tmj surgery in december. Guest guest
Yup--asthma right here! No biggie...here's the scoop... if you can open your lips and feel like you're getting it " in " then that's fine, but if you're so tight it's not getting thru, then ask your GP (dr) for what's called a bugle or trumpet extension, allows you to poof and inhail it through your nose...strange but true. I didn't need this but did find that post-op my asthma was BETTER Than before....took weeks to come bk to it's normal strength. and it's still a little better. Also if you take pills for asthma, get that plan rolling...I take theodore and singular---both time realeased so smashing was not going to totally work out. The theodore I went old school to a lower dose of caps that I could smush and the singular, I broke in half for better extension of the meds. I didn't use my inhailor much at all. Good luck with surg! JO > > I am scheduled to have upper, lower, and tmj surgery in december. I > know that you can't open your mouth for a while.
