Guest guest
It's a gel - I suspect an acid gel - that you put in the trays or the retainers, and leave it in there overnight. It did wonders in my old, stained mouth. But it's not as quick as Zoom! I think probably Opalescence costs a couple of hundred bucks -- maybe more, I dunno. As my sweet dentist gave it to me. It took me from the brownest on the scale to the near whitest -- with about a week's use, best I remember. C. > What is Opalescence? Guest guest
Depends, I think, on what kind of retainers. I can't imagine it working with Hawleys. And if you have the permanent, bonded wires, you'll have to get trays, I'd think. I have the acryllic removable retainers, the ones that look like Invisaligns. And I just used them as the trays. I don't think Zoom! is s'posed to hurt, but I don't know. Maybe she had some gum disease problems, or some exposed decay, etc. And yes, these things are all expensive -- and they're deemed " cosmetic, " so insurance companies, far as I know, don't pay anything toward whitening. There are also other brands similar to Opalescence. That's just the one my dentist chose for me. Guest guest
These options have not even been mentioned to me at ALL. I am sorta annoyed right now since the one that keeps getting mentioned is laminates and come on now...several hunderd in TOTAL compared to nearly 1500$ per TOOTH?! So I can ask about Opalescence, zooming and laminates, anything else? (my teeth are not even colored through each tooth and some were bonded yrs back and still wear that face.) Thanks! Guest guest
I'm sure that I'd look much better with the laminates or veneers, but the price pretty much rules them out for me, at least now. It may be, though, if your teeth are in rough shape especially, that laminates or veneers will be your eventual choice. They would be mine, if I were independently wealthy! There are quite a few brightening and whitening systems available -- right down to the Crest strips you can buy at your drugstore. Opalescence, as I think I said earlier, is an acid gel. I put it in the retainers at night, every night for about two weeks. Some people are sensitive to these products, and my dentist warned me to stop if I felt any burning (i did not). Especially so, because the retainers I was using as bleaching trays fit more closely than the regular trays.
