Guest guest
Hi, I am considering genioplasty as part of the orthognathic procedures, but there is an article on emedicine describing some of the complications that worry me. I wanted to ask some other people's opinion based on their own experiences post-operation. It has to do with the position of the lower lip. If the sutures are not placed corrently, sometimes one could experience what is called " lip ptosis " or lip drop and end up with a lip that is lower by a few mm from the original position, exposing more of the lower teeth and gums. I alredy had my consultation but I never asked this since most of the problems seem to be related to nerve damage not any peripheral issues, but this seems to bother me as well since I already have more exposure than I want on the lower teeth and that might increase it even more. Any of you who had genioplasty post-op have noticed any " drop " or lowering of the position of their lower lip with reference to the original position? How common is that? Thank you for your feedback.

Guest guest
Far as I know, all questions are welcome here. But really, this is one you need to ask your surgeon. At least that's what I think. It's a pretty specialized inquiry, and your doc can give you way better info than the posters here... Besides, you're paying for his or her expertise --- or, if you're among the blessed, your insurance company is! Guest guest
i definitely have lip drop and seems to be more pronounced as the feeling comes back and my lips want to go to original smile position. We'll see how this goes, but i am definitely feeling my lower lip on my lower gums when i talk now, not across my teeth. i will mention that to my OS when i see him on monday. > > Hi, > > I am considering genioplasty as part of the orthognathic procedures, > but there is an article on emedicine describing some of the > complications that worry me.
