Hi ,

My doc is going to make an implant for my jaw. My jawline is

asymetrical, it didn't bother me too much for years, but now that my

jaw has been moved up and forward I notice it a lot more. My surgery

was a year ago, I still have braces on, so he wants to wait until the

bite is in place for good to know what to do to the jawline.

Also, in another post, you mentioned removal of a screw. I had that

done at 6 months post-op. It wasn't bad, just sore for a few days.

NOTHING like the original surgery.

Good Luck,

a, WOW i feel like i hit the jackpot with your feedback.

THANKS. i think i will also be in ortho gear for a while as he is

shifting my midline orthodontically and that will take time. i

have a meeting with my OS on monday and will talk with him about the

implant. i just want my chin to look like it lines up with the

center of my face. clearly, per previous photos, this was always an

issue and caught by no one. i had same surgery as you, it sounds

like, and with the advancement of my jaw, it pronounced this

assymetry much more. How long were you under anesthesia for the

screw removal? did you have many removed or just one? Was it one

that was bothering you? do you think i could talk comfortably ALL

DAY as a teacher shortly afterwards? i know everyone is different,

but i have high pain threshold and positive healing, i think!

Thanks, katie

Sorry for the delay in this reply, I've been busy at work and my

computer is down at home.

To answer your questions, my hardware removal was done under a

general anethesia---the doc did this due to how far he would have to

retract to get to the screw. It was in the same spot at yours, near

the nose, under my right eye socket. It was a quick procedure

though, and I also had the plate and screws removed from my chin. It

didn't bother me, but it made the chin more pronounced.

As for going back to work and talking all day----I have to talk a lot

at my job also, I had it done on a Thursday and went back to work on

Monday.

Hope this helps you out. Keep me posted. You can email me directly

if you want to.

I have an assymetic jaw as a result of my surgery last year. It was

assyetrical before surgery, but is a little worse now. My surgeon

mentioned trimming the longer/bigger side down. Was that given to

you as an option? I was told by another surgeon to have an implant

on the smaller side, so I'm wondering what is the typical approach.
