Has anyone had the screws removed from their jaw? If so, why?

Is the procedure complicated? Any risks involved? Can it be done at

the doctors office under a local anesthetic?

Zulu, I haven't. But more than one of us have. Generally it's

because the screws become painful, or obtrusive -- e.g., if the gum

tissue recedes and the screws are poking out. Or if an infection

develops.

My surgeon said it's no big deal to take them out -- I believe he

generally does it as an in-the-office procedure, with that feel-

good, knock-you-out iv stuff.

I don't plan on doing it unless I develop a problem, but I don't

think it's a big deal to do, either.
